Received this eMail this morning from the 49ers Sunshine person:

We are sorry to report that Bert Curtis has passed away. He
was suffering from a stroke & in rehab but came down with
pneumonia. Then soon after had another stroke that had
devastating results. Bert & Fay have been members of the
49ers since 2001. They are such an asset to the club with
their knowledge of fiberglass & GMC parts and repairs. They
have put on many rallies and opened their home property for
camping to members. Bert will be greatly missed.

Our hearts & prayers go out to Fay and we extend our
sympathy and pray for her to have the strength to carry on.
We hope we will continue to see Fay at our rallies.

There will be a memorial service for Bert in August.

Bert was an all-around great guy and a good friend and I
will miss him dearly.

According to Fay, Bert had requested no formal services. There will be a
memorial service later this spring. Fay has not announced the date yet. She
did mention a toast of Cherry schnapps in Berts honor, though. Sure sorry
to see him go. Cannot afford to lose many more GMC friends.

If Faye is reading this:
Sorry, Faye, didn't have any Cherry Schnapps, but did toast him with 40
year old VO, while saying "Cherry Schnapps" and "To Bert".

My visit with Bert and Faye and the 4th of July 2013 picnic was one of the
best highlights of my trip that year. I'll miss him often. Faye will have
her hands full maintaining their mountain retreat.

All the best to you, Faye, if you happen to read this.

Sad to say, but Motorhome'n isn't the group to be with if you can not stand to loose friends.

Also, It is better to have known most of the GMC'ers only to loose them than it is to have never known them in the first place. (Kind of like it is better to have loved and lost.... only different. Rolling Eyes )

Still it is sad when we loose the good ones.

Bert was a good one. Still is in my mind.

As someone in the bottom part of the age group for this hobby (although not as far to the bottom as I was 8 years ago when we first bought our GMC), this struck me pretty hard.

I only talked to Bert twice on the phone, but he was incredibly helpful both times. Definitely a man I had hoped to meet sometime and one whose skills I greatly admire. Dan Gregg's passing was just a killer for me. When I first bought my GMC Dan was such an inspiration with his blog, pictures and upgrades. Meeting him at various rallies and events over the years just reinforced the great man he was. And then there was Joe Mondello, who I fondly remember driving my tiny daughter all through the camp ground in his golf cart at an Eastern States Rally. Her giggles and his shear joy at entertaining her will stick with me a long time.

My now 5 year old daughter has a framed picture in her room of her surrounded by the Mondello dogs, sitting on the golf cart, with Joe's arm holding them all in place, and our coach in the background. One of the few things she never buries with her mess.

This is our community. While we may lose some members and other good ones take their place, I am forever thankful to those who take part and help me make our GMC memories.

Thanks,

Speaking from the other end of the age group, It's almost like losing our
kids, when the younger members go before we do.

So sorry to see Bert go.

We had just a few conversations and emails with Bert and Faye asking for one inch body pads for our coach. He made a set for us; no muss, no fuss.

We put Bert and Faye on our bucket list, expecting to get going on the list this winter. The trip hasn't started yet for various reasons. We sadly find the bucket list works both directions.

We thank God there have been so many good folks along the way. Bert was one of 'em; without ever having met Bert, we miss him and mourn his passing.

Best wishes to all.
