I'm getting frustrated with this suspension issue I have. On the passenger side i'm getting leak down within a few days whereas the driver side stay up fine. It does it when I use the iso valve at the pillows. I've got a 4 bag suspension Jim sold to me. I've check the 2 connection points on the hose that goes from one to the other and it seems to not show any bubbles. Also that same side when the autoleveler runs always is lower than the driver side by a inch or so. I've even replace the level sensor arm and it still has the same level issue. Very troublesome side of the suspension. Any ideas of what these issues would be?

Sorry, dbl questioning here. Also have poop pipe end cap missing. Went to camping world and bought one, but it seems it slightly too small. Whats up with that? I swear my turds arm't that big to stretch that tube. Sorry couldn't resist, always enjoy a turd joke when I can.

If you have the small gages on the bags, be sure to bubble check them as
well. They are a known source of leaks, and are inaccurate as well. Check
the shut off valves as well. Any place you have a connection or an air line
is suspect for leaks, too. Same goes for compressors, tanks, solenoid
valves, height control valves. The stuff is all old.

Tom, if you have leak down when the valve at the bag is closed then it is either a connection to the bag, including the "o" ring behind the fitting that screws into the bag or it could be a small pinhole in the bag.

I once had a pinhole in the bag where it folds over the cone. Apparently from a sharp piece of stone that got caught there.

Sounds like two issues.  

With leaks, shut off the middle valveand wait.  If it still goes down, the problem is the quad bag system outside.  If it stays up go inside

Last summer, I finally got around to installing the JimK 4 bagger that I
won at a GMCMI rally many years ago (thanks Billy). I found one of the
bags leaked thru one of the two mounting holes. That may be your problem.

Age doesn’t really matter if the leak is a pinhole or a leaking fitting.

Many of the seals and parts that make up the original air suspension
systems on the GMC motorhome are either plastic from the 1970's or rubber
from the same era. The solenoid coils and valves is well as the plastic air
lines, too. That stuff, while extremely durable, has a finite life span. If
you fix one part, and do not do the entire system from end to end, you WILL
BE FIXING it again in the near future, and perhaps alongside a busy
freeway. Leaky systems, regardless if they are air, oil, coolant, freon,
are part of the OLD GMC. Just how they are. Sealants and tape will get you
home, but are not the final solution. The fewer parts that any system has,
usually, the more reliable it is. Anvils, as a case in point, usually out
last their operators. In most cases, several operators.

Tom,

I see by checking your account that you are in Kansas City. I will let Matt speak to the handiness of having a signature block on your account. Being an architect will help us on the structural issues we face from time to time, and so I am glad you are posting.

About the cap. I have absolutely no idea why that cap won't fit. I bought one for mine and it fit fine until I backed into a berm and cracked both tanks. I bought some new stuff and everything fit and I think I used the new cap on some old stuff. If I was in KC or nearby, I would surely come by and cast an eyeball on your setup, but that has only a small chance of fixing anything.

I am waiting on Rob Mueller to post the definitive troubleshooting flow chart for every air system that has ever been put on a coach. It will be as long as the Bayeux Tapestry. Starts out: Are you trying to repair a GMC Motorhome? yes - no. I think in the interim you have been blessed with the advice.

I have found out some rules that go along with Gene's mileage rule:

Gene's Postulate: "Whatever you do, you will get 8 - 10 MPG if everything is running right."
Some additions: "After you fix it, it's still broke."
"After you fix it again, the original problem causing the trouble will slowly reveal itself." (Can take a decade.)
And I apologize in advance for this: "Fixing a GMC is like stopping a leak on a flat roof."
"No matter how aggravating the GMC is, it is so much more fixable and satisfying than the half million dollar rigs."

The difference in ride heights between the right and left side may be due to a faulty height control valve. Ken H has adjustable links that allow you to vary the setting of the ride height valve on the Power Level system. Dave Lenzi does a beautiful total rebuild of the entire ride height valve. Either of these may solve your problem.
Yes, my air ride system is broken (disclaimer).

The real answer is simple. - You bought the wrong cap.
If the fitting at the pipe is white, it is Thetford.
If the cap you bought is not white it is Valtera, Camco or maybe Barker.
As Thetford had good copyrights and patents, there was no way another supplier could make compatible parts. So, Belford made parts and valves that did not violate those, and then went out of business. The other supplier picked up the slack.
You can still get most Thetford parts, but they are very proud of them and don't be in a hurry. If you are not on an open account there, it can take three days for any parts to ship and you can't even pick them up if you are there.

And Yes, Please build a sigfile, it will help both you and us trying to help you.

Thanks guys for the help on the suspension. I'll break out the soapy water bottle again once the dang temp get back up above instant freeze level. I can certainly check the interior connections though.

Yes on the sewer pipe it is white so it must be thedford then. I'll see if I can do something with it.
