I guess I'm in another world but the parts prices I'm see working on this diesel swap is getting me down. I went to Chevy to pick up an o ring for the dipstick to pan. It's a simple 1/3" inch o ring. Can you believe $10.50 before tax? For a $.10 o ring? And I thought $38 for 4 u joint bolts and two straps was bad.....

The joy of a 'full retail' experience !

Bin there, done that, but couldn't afford the Tee shirt! If there is any
good news, it'll be cheaper than some of my 911 parts..

I have a friend who is looking to rebuild an NV5600 tranny for his diesel dually. The estimate came in at $3k --which means the takehome price will probably be over 4k after all the gotchas. Ouch. He could get almost 300 of Hal's o-rings for that.

Mercedes wanted $20 each for the O rings that mount the water sensor in my Grand Cherokee, jeep wanted $10 each, I paid $35 for a new fuel filter that came with them.

and in Germany, Mercedes is sometimes cited as having fairly low prices
for parts, compared to Audi or Volkswagen.

Just to add to the story, a good friend was the service manager at an MB/BMW dealership. They would often substitute and MB part for a BMW part (particularly true with Bosch) because the MB part was way less expensive. The parts had the same supplier part number.

Common with old Lucas, too. The same part with a Jaguar label would be 3 times higher than its counterpart marked for Morris. Great opportunity for arbitrage.
