At the last GMCMI rally, I picked up a set of RAMCO heated/power mirror heads for 50 bucks Shocked Shocked

Ramco sells arms that fit our coaches but I decided to make them just to be different and because I can. I won't go into the metal shaping aspect.

I started out by making the plate that fits on the coach, drilled the 4 holes for the bolts, machined the socket for the top, and then cut and welded some 1/4" aluminum for the internal structure. You can see it all welded up in the background below. In the foreground is the inside piece, this particular shape is an 'anticlastic' curve, sometimes called a double reverse, or potato chip. It's the most difficult shape in metalshaping and this was compounded by the need for indentations to clear the bolt heads.

They're not quite finished. I still need to do a little sanding and decide if I want to paint them or put a brushed aluminum finish like some of the other stuff on the coach.

Ah, I get it. Embarassed Well, it would be like you paying someone to build your web page... Laughing Laughing

I haven't had a chance to do much shaping since I got the coach. My roadster project hasn't been touched and Monique only gets attention when I take her to a metal shaping get together. The weather has been really crappy for the last couple days so it was good to spend some time working with my shaping tools and getting some quality TIG welding time. Shocked

Kerry,

Nice work. Adds to hope for the clan, that so much can be done. Actually, stunning work. How do you plan to finish it? Do you have a powder coat outfit in your shop?

A GMC deal, at $50.00. I was hoping to find a pair for $49.00 myself! Glad to see you working in your specialty.

Best,

Carey

You keep fabbing all that aluminum stuff for your coach and you're going to hit the tipping point one day. End up with it looking like an Airstream.
