I was wondering why we hear nothing from dave or anyone regarding his gmc coach, with what I understand to be, a 8.1 litre gmc gas engine or is it 8.2, anyway this engine is 20 th century production tha I have seen in yukons and 1half ton trucks...;brian 77 ele 455

Dave is dealing with some health issues, but the install is a success. It runs great and they have quite a few miles on it. He tows a heavy car and flies up the hills. I talked to him about an installation and it can be done. It is no small task but is engineered beyond anything I can imagine.

After talking with Manny down at the Co-op last week, his diesel package may be worth exploring ---though I'm not sure what kind of max towing weight it's likely to have. ...But you're going to have to get in line. He already has pre-orders stacking up. (And orders for 1-ton front end kits are coming in hot-n-heavy, too.)

Brian,

If you saw my report about a week ago, you would know that Dave has had some health issue. He still has some more to deal with, but you won't hear from him here. He is way too busy to slow down long enough to run a keyboard.

His 8.1 installations are an engineering marvel. I looked at how he ran the drive axle through the oil pan with 0.045" of clearance between the actual drive axle and the 8.1 crankshaft counterweights and reworked the rear face of block so more than 2 bolts hold the transmission to the engine.

He is still very slow (for Dave), but doing much better. When I call, I always hope Mary will answer.
Prayers will help.

Matt

Dave has put on several seminars at GMCMI in the past few years and the 8.1 project was one of them, but it not available online. The conversion is a work of art. Dave is a master machinist and when he does something new, he make two of everything. The conversion is rather complex as it requires extensive modification of the wire harness and computer ins and out. The adapter plate assembly is a work of art as is the oil pan. He has all the jigs made up to do this conversion, you have to get the correct 8.1 for it to work. JR Slaten is suppose to be doing this conversion, but I have not talked to JR for quite a while. Does any one out there have any of the pictures?

Brian,

Dave DOES NOT read the GMC net period end of story.

He is far too busy working on the parts he supplies for the GMC: http://www.bdub.net/lenzi/index.html

Here's a photo of his front clip with the 8.1 before he put it in:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/aa-miscellaneous-photos/p36474-d-lenzi-27s-81-front-frame.html

As I understand it he has several people he's building 8.1's for; the cost is in the five figure range.

I got to drive it when I visited him a few years ago and it GOES!

Here's a dyno run on an 8.1 Vortec:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/aa-miscellaneous-photos/p52884-dyno-run-vortec-81.html

I showed the dyno run above and he noted the 8.1 that's in his GMC is even more powerful.
