The CFO came back from the Gyppy Lube a couple of days ago and with a quote for $600 and change to replace the pan on her 2006 Odyssey. Seems the drain plug was oversized and he was afraid if it the pan threads came off with it, the only fix would be a new oil pan, and he didn't want to touch it until he knew he was covered. I am NOT disparaging the establishment. He did nothing wrong.
I had already bought the oil and filter to change it and did not even know she was going to save me the hassle. Anyway, it made me second guess pulling the drain plug, since I didn't have an 18mm wrench and was thinking about buying one just for that drain plug. I made a trip to the auto parts store to get one of those gizmos that you use to pump the oil out through the dipstick tube. Worked as advertised. Oil changed. Now I can drain the oil in everything in the driveway without removing a drain plug if I don't want to drive a low clearance car onto ramps and crawl around on the concrete carport floor and so forth. FYI the 2006 Odyssey oil filter is accessible from the passenger side wheel well, just need to turn the wheel all the way to the right.
It got me thinking that the oil sitting in the front of the Olds 455 pan might be removable the same way.
Is there a clear shot from the filler spout to that part of the pan that you can stick the sucker tube through?

Mark,
The oil from the filler tube goes over the timing gear and chain and than
into the pan.
