Potable Check blew out!! [message #269859] |

My potable check valve blew out and I don't know where some of the parts have gone.
If this has happened to anyone else;
Did you find the parts?
Did you find the parts because they stopped something from working?
I was disassembling the plumbing around the pump, and a little spring appeared. Investigation found that it was the spring from the barb-flare check valve. I blew out the line from the city water inlet, but no parts came out.
I am not sure how worried I should be.

Matt,
I'm not familiar with the GMC water system and it's not clear what part blew out. I took a look at MM X-7525, Page 24-J-2 and there
are two connections:
1) water fill - to the water tank
2) hose connection city water inlet
Which one blew out?
In my Avion there is a strainer at the inlet to the pump so if it happened to me I wouldn't worry about it.
You could install one of these in the tank and look for bits in the tank:

It also makes it possible to clean the tank easily.

This is great, the part is pictured in both the service manual and the parts list and never labeled or identified.
There is check valve to save the pump from city water pressure. In the case of at least the old copper plumbed coaches, it is check valve with a male flare on one end and a hose barb on the other. It is where the rubber from the pump attaches to the copper. The only real reason I know it was there is because I modified the system so I could fill the potable tank from city water. This is all down stream of the pump, so there is little chance that it can get back to the pump inlet and tank unless it happened while I was filling from city water and that is something that I have not done in the last couple of years.
Oh Well, the part is not in any catalog I can find (in hand or on-line), so I am going to rebuild that entire section with brass pipe. Why Brass? So I can unscrew it to make the repair that it will require at some time in the distant future.

Note that it has a 40 PSI regulator on the city water supply and no check valve between that and the pump inlet. I installed a Sur
Flow Whisper Jet pump and so far no problems.

If you're complimenting Miscellaneous Pictures Album THANKS! However, I was only following orders! Bdub told me to put EVERYTHING in
albums and so I did. With a name like Mueller what would you expect! ;-)
BTW all the Avion schematics are in the Avion Operation and Service Manual on Bdub's website:

They were drawn so that just about anyone could understand them.
