On the way home from camping today, we heard a really loud BANG while on the freeway.
Pulled over to figure out what it was, and found the big driver's side window behind the sofa had shattered.
I'm guessing a rock from a passing truck. It's the fixed pane of the later style (hehr) window.
So... now I need a new piece of glass. Is this something an auto glass shop can fabricate, or do I need
to find a used GMC window? Does anybody have a used later-style big slider window they'd like to part with?

thanks,
Karen

You will need a piece from an original window. They are curved. I have one you can have but the freight will kill you. Try and find one closer if you can and if not, I'll ship mine to you.

Karen,

I sure don't have any extra windows, but sympathize with you. Mr. Murphy is lurking around. Sorry you experienced this. Glad it wasn't the windshield, though the expense might be comparable.

Good luck with the repair.

Funny, but I would have preferred it was the windshield (as long as it wasn't catastrophic of course).
Those are fogged and have rock chips but aren't bad enough to justify replacing...

Oh well, nobody was hurt and we made it home under our own power, so shouldn't really complain.

i had one do that but it was because the bar in the middle was loose because someone tried to break in. about 5 miles on the HW and it broke. Sad Insurance did pay as a comprehensive clam not collision. Smile

thanks Kerry, if I can't find one closer/cheaper, I will take you up on that. Figure in the short term I could stick a piece of plexiglass in there until I can find a real replacement.

thanks

Karen your insurance may cover the loss. The stationary glass on mine shattered a few years ago in a campground Progressive covered it 100% as my disappearing deductible had disappeared. The glass co had new windows with the 2 holes in it for the sliding glass but not the fixed one I didn't want holes so I got it from Jim K . Progressive paid Jim for the glass and shipping they also paid for tinting and me to install it or a glass co to install it.

alas, no. We only carry minimal insurance for our ancient fleet, so we're on our own for this.
