Dorman # 03609 Speedi-Boot. I got mine at O'Reilly's. Probably get it from any of the auto parts stores, except NAPA. Cost is less than $20. Should have enough change to buy a senior coffee at McD's.
Although I would hate to do the change over along side the road, I think it would be a good addition to spares on board the coach. I'm going to get another one, just for that reason.
The fit of the boot is exact duplicate of the original, with a few more folds. May resist tearing better. Material seems more flexible. The tiny bolts and nuts are a bit difficult to deal with, nut size is 1/4". I used a small open end wrench to hold it, socket would not fit in the space available. You also need a #1 sized Philip screwdriver to turn the bolt. The instructions say to grease the bolts to ease installation. Without greasing the bolt, I was unable to overcome the friction between the rubber hole and the bolt. You also need to have an awl or small nail to make sure the molded holes go all the way through the rubber flange.
The package includes a packet of CV grease, enough to do the job. I used brake free degreaser to clean out the old grease, as recommended by the instructions. You might get a package of the thin nitrate gloves, the grease is very messy and sticks to everything.
Banding material, for both ends, is included in the package. It will not be enough to double-band the big end, but will clamp it on tight.
I removed the front wheel, really makes the job easier. Also had the wheel well liner out and removed the oil filter. Turns out, neither of these two removals were necessary.
Now, back to the headliner job.
Hope this helps someone.

Good information, thanks! Gene, what part of this process are you recommending Shoe Goo for?

How did you come up with the part number? For a 1976 Toronado O'Reilly says 03608 would be the correct boot.

Try this: Dorman universal fit (part # 614-003)
I got a new boot for one side, then a rebuilt CV joint and boot for the other side, both from Jim Kanomata a few years back. The CV joint was fine, however neither of the boots lasted very long. Both were replaced by Dorman split boots, which are still good, although as Matt mentioned, our coach doesn't get high usage (proabably average usage for non-retirees though).

G'day,
This is for Newbies.
YEARS ago there were boots made of silicone available for the GMC; they were colored blue and were called "blue boots" (how's that
for demonstrating an acute grasp on the obvious) unfortunately they are no longer manufactured as they are virtually indestructible!
I had the good fortune of obtaining a pair from a gentleman here on the GMCnet and one extra from a second gentleman here. The pair
was installed on The Blue Streak and the spare is held here as well. In the USA you really don't need a spare, however, here in
Australia there are unpaved roads in parts of Queensland and the Outback. I was working on Double Trouble at the Coop back in 2008
and found a couple on used axles in JimB's used spare pile and he sold them to me so now both GMC's have them.
The reason I mentioned this is to keep an eye out for a pair on eBay. Unfortunately I do not have the part number, manufacturer, or
any details available or I'd share them.
Regards,
Rob M.

Hi Rob
The blue boots were called a SuperBoot" from NAPA. It was a blue polyurethane boot. Napa part number: 2456SB. They are no longer available at NAPA.
I did a quick internet search and found this:
http://www.carpartkings.com/dorman-cv-joint-boot-614-434.html
They might fit the GMC motorhome but one would have to check the dimensions first. The right one should cross to a 1976 Olds Toronado.

To add to the part number confusion, going to Dorman's web site, and checking both #03608 and #03609, Dorman says neither will fit a 75 Olds Toronado.
However, I ordered #03609, based on a string of a few years back, and it fit perfectly.
On this list, there are no reported failures with the Dorman Split Boots installed on the GMC motorhome. Probably a lower stress environment. I'll report back after the touring season.
At the moment, I am pleased with it. The big end fit perfectly, the small end fit perfectly, and the length of the body did not result in any stretching of the boot.

I haven't used a split boot but I tend to agree with Loffen that shortcuts are, all too often, future trouble. HOWEVER I plan to get one of 03609 split boots as an emergency spare to use until I can get it fixed right.

For an emergency it is all right, so is also a plastic bag, fold it once, wrap it around the CV joint a couple of times and hold it in place with some tape
