Greetings!
I'm replacing the rear wheel cylinders which I already have, & am also going to replace the rear shoes at the same time. Is there a part # for NAPA or a local parts supplier for the shoes?
Thanks

Under Brakes, search "wheel", then "shoe".

There are more efficient brake shoe compounds that seem to work well.
call me and I'll look it up.
Having a part # is great, but knowing the new friction materials help.
Migil of MGM GMC told me of the new material.
We had to go to these when our source quit producing them.

As a suggestion, I would also replace the brake shoe hardware and adjuster
kits. I have seen over the past couple of yours parts failing you normally
would never think of. GM had no idea and did not test for someone using
these things this long. We have done brake work as you are now, replaced
all the "disposables" in the system to find still other parts failing.
Recently our standard is to replace all that other crap in there. I'm sure
Jim K. can set you up with all of that. Call me if you have any other
questions....... oh, BTW, use only "new" parts in your brake system --- no
rebuilds, reman and don't do it yourself with a kt. Piddle with other
stuff but not the brakes!

As Jim says, the hardware can have a very big effect on the brake performance, esp the springs since they determine when the linings actually start to move off the anchor pin. Even though the shoes and friction material may have an American brand on the box, most linings are now made in China. That alone isn't bad, but unless the US distributor has stringent specs, you may have issues. I would try to find linings made by Dexter to assure you get US made material. Also, if at all possible, try to find rivetted linings rather than bonded--that is getting to be difficult these days.

Bob,

Double Trouble has disks on the front and middle wheels and the rear is drums (so I can have a parking brake). Dave Lenzi
recommended carbon metallic so that's what I installed on the calipers and drums.

Pads: http://www.appliedgmc.com/prod.itml/icOid/1048

Shoes: http://www.appliedgmc.com/prod.itml/icOid/607

You MUST sand the surface of the disks and drums where the pads / shoes contact the disks / drums when you install them.
