JimB came out to the mo-rally cookout showing off one similar to this:

18000mAh Jumpstarter & High Capacity Power Bank

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KBINF7G/

It's brick-size and li-on. I keep a lead-acid battery pack in the Honda Fit already (almost always used for someone else's vehicle). This is significantly smaller, more useful, and DEFINITELY on my going-to-get list.

Also, last year BatteryMinder Model 1500 went on sale at a deep discount (Northern Tool, I think). If anyone see's this on a door-buster, flag it for me.

I have one of these:

I can attest that it works very well. I gave one to each of my sons and my son in law as birthday or Christmas gifts. There is a very impressive video:

Highly recommended.

I have not used one, but they are being talked about up here in the frozen north.

our crappy paper did a little blurb about them recently:

http://www.sctimes.com/story/news/local/2014/12/01/jump-starters-revive-frozen-car-batteries-minnesota/19761295/

I have always had jump packs around for years, and have had great luck with them, my last one finally quit performing last winter after maybe 4-5 years and I have not replaced it yet. I am watching these smaller packs to see how their service life works.

But even with those jump packs, I still do not believe they will ever replace a good set of 4 gauge jumper cables for guaranteed ability to get an engine to crank. it might be more convenient, and smaller to carry, but I guarantee if you have one car that starts, you will be able to get power to the dead car with a good set of cables. Your jumper pack might not be charged when you need it, might not quite be enough for a big engine. When I had my jump pack, that was 1st method of attack and worked 4 out of 5 times, then if that could not do the job, out came the 4 gauge cables, and we would get it to crank every time.

Agreed. But you practically have to drop the engine to get to the terminals on a lot of cars now. If you're offering a jump, just hand them the pack and you don't care about access to the donor. Or getting near enough for the cables to reach.

Me, I keep a big deep-cycle battery and a long set of cables in the floorboard of the F150 beater. That has the handy "passenger blocking" feature, too.

I used to carry one of those combination jumpstart/air compressor/ hair
curling devices so I was always prepared for???. Turns out that the only
time I used it was to rescue start someone who was only a victim of their
own lack of preparedness and ineptitude. Then it occurred to me that it
was impossible to fix "stupid". So, I leave the heavy thing home. Do your
homework, drive your good parts. Maintain your vehicle at home where it is
warm and dry. Not beside a busy highway in the rain.

Between the real estate office at a shopping strip and her ladies' church groups, my wife is apparently a magnet for those coming in with their own cables needing a jump. I buy the jumpbox for her cars mainly to keep the polarity-challenged OUT of my vehicles.

>stupid

Seein jumper cables burning their insulation off tends to reinforce that observation.

The Subject/Title is still incorrect ("rcjordan" ) on many of your forum posts and it's then being propagated to the email list (which arrive with no context, since the Subject is not pertaining to the conversation).

I don't think it's an issue with either the forum or the mail list - since it's happening to both versions. I haven't noticed it happening to anyone else, but perhaps it is... I dunno...

If I was a betting man, I'd be blaming your browser settings/usage... FYI: the problem goes back to last April:

http://bit.ly/1GwBRFx

I initially thought the posts were a "callout" to rcjordan and didn't even pay any attention to them - but they are actually replies to existing threads.

I was thinking the browser useragent on a webkit-based browser. I'd selected Chrome in the past but this test post is (webkit) IE10/Win 8.

Do you somehow have "rcjordan" automatically entered as the subject line on EVERY message leaving your computer as email?
