I am posting this because it says it also has frequency readout. Most do not. Looking at the face of the meter in the picture I do not see how you set it to read frequency. Frequency readout makes it good for setting Onan speed.

It is not a bad deal for $12.00 shipped. Offer ends at midnight.

It claims to measure frequency and capacitance as well as electronic fields... but I don't see anything in the photo that makes it seem like it can do any of that. I think it's really just a regular VOM similar to the HF freebie, though it does look to be built better and is no doubt worth $12, even without the whiz-bang features it claims.

My FREE harbor freight volt meter blew up last night when I touched it to a fully charged battery.

Take it back for another free one under warranty. Or you could ask for your money back.

Did you connect it using the OHMS input jacks? That could have done that!

Pretty sure I had it set right because I had used it in the motor hone to check voltages last week. Sometimes you get what you pay for. I don't get to HF very often. I was actually at a GMC rally and a bunch if the guys were going.

Hoping Santa will bring me a new one.

Well...the 10 amp position on the selector switch is 180 degrees from the 20 volt position and there is only a very slight difference between the two ends of the knob. If it's actually pointing to the 10 amp position and you have the red lead in the 10 amp hole, you're definitely going to fry the leads or the meter if there is no fuse inside when you connect it to a fully charged lead-acid battery.

Or if the lead is plugged into the 10A position instead of the normal volt/ohm position, it's gonna smoke the meter as soon as you connect across a battery. There's really no way I can think of that the meter would do anything that could be described as "blowing up" if it was in the right mode - there's simply too much input impedance (resistance) to draw enough current to do anything noticeable. That's not to say that a meter couldn't simply stop working when you connect it to a battery, but "blowing up" isn't something that would happen if the mode / connector was correct.
