Not explaining this to get business but let me ask why it is you are doing
the front wheel bearings? If there is movement in them, someone explained
before that the wear will probably be found from an out of tolerance hub,
knuckle or both. In that case you would have to get a replacement one
shipped to you. There would be shipping both ways because of the value of
the core. Also, if you have never pulled apart a front hub, you may not
recognize the extent of the wear -- it's more of what itfeels like coming
apart than the fact of doing it. How it comes apart and goes back together
is something your recognize after doing a couple. Because of these 2 facts
many people have removed them from the coach -- anyone can do that -- then
box them up and ship them to us. We charge 1 hour ($80) to separate
everything, find the issues and put it all back together ready to reinstall
on the coach. We can also have the rotor turned for $12.
True you are paying freight in 2 directions but chances were all but sure
there would have been shipping involved if there was a worn part anyway.
It's not the cost as much as it is the expertise. I have no doubt there
are contrasting views but what good is it taking it apart if you can't have
whatever you will need waiting for you?

Jim- what happens if the hub has been damaged by wear? Is there a way to repair them or modify a Toronado hub and knuckle? Or is it time to come to grips with the cost of a Hubler conversion?

Randy,
Replacement Hubs are available as a complete exchange for your coach. Unbolt the old one and put the new one in. They are done by Dave Lenzi and you are getting a better than new unit as repair and machine work is better than factory. He plasma sprays both the hub and knuckles oversize and then grinds them to the correct size and hardness. They come with the added grease fittings, new correct bearing and seals.

I am unsure if Jim K carries the complete assemble, but you could call him and Jim B might even have the assemblies

Jim, thank you for the input into my wheel bearing saga what you suggest sounds good but time consuming, Dan Hensley in Apache junction 40 miles away has a good shop and has worked on many a GMC locally here in AZ,I had the front end checked last year on my way thru Tucson,At Rillito auto GMC who thought they were good for a while, I think now is that time, I do have some play up and down and to each side the rest of the linkage is good. I received a spec sheet on my 73 TZE063V102903 from the 2nd owner in Florida that states the front end was changed to a 1990,what than means I don't know? steering box was rebuilt last year,We may know more when Dan gets into it on Monday. You may have some info into that, the original owner who was a good client of yours for many years don't have his name on hand right now, but he did change a great deal of things on the coach all for the better. Jim any info would be appreciated. Les Holmes

Fortunately my hubs are in good shape, but the crux of my question to Jim was what happens if the hubs sent in are damaged and unsuitable as cores? Thanks for the answers, I guess they can be re-worked within limits.

We have hubs and knuckles spray weled then turned down as was described.
You are right being concerned on the cores. We have found the ones Ken did
cannot go through the spray welding process, the sleeves he used do not
work well in the process so yes-- the cores are valuable and getting
moresso. Eventually, cores being unable to be welded is why one day the
standard will be to install the 1 ton assembly. Right now, we have cores
and can support the original system with no problem -- but one day the 1
ton will be what we do. If you are up against, control arm bushings, ball
joints, hubs, knuckes you may as well go 1 ton now. Shipping is a factor
when you have core returns and these parts are heavy!
