We've never been to Yellow stone. It's on my bucket list. Rapids City is most of the way there in relationship to Cedar Rapids Iowa. Any thoughts on that idea? Bob Dunahugh

Early September would be great.
The end of September into October could get you winter conditions.
Some of the camp grounds are closed after the 20th of September
and a lot of the facilities closes early September.

Western States is having their rally in Pueblo, Colorado (500 miles from
Rapid City) Mid September before the GMCMI.

Bob,

You'd better hit Rapid City on the way BACK from Yellowstone. That would
make the GMCWS rally a long detour, but the weather's likely to be a
problem after Rapid City.

But then, I don't like living below 70*F. :-)
