I need to replace my original fans/vents and saw a mention of a Maxifan in a thread on bathroom fans. Searching online I only find Maxxfan and wonder if Maxifan is a typo. And if so, does anyone have any installed pictures of a Maxxfan, specifically from the inside? We have a wet bath and the ceiling has a molded opening to accomodate the original 14" fan that has very round corners and I don't want to have to modify the interior enclosure.
The fan I'm looking at is this...

Ken,
I will reword my original response and intersperse it in your original message, I'll use CAPS for clarity, I'm not shouting.
I need to replace my original fans/vents and saw a mention of a Maxifan in a thread on bathroom fans. Searching online I only find
Maxxfan and wonder if Maxifan is a typo.
MAXXFAN IS A BRAND NAME; I CAN'T REMEMBER EVER SEEING A "MAXIFAN."
And if so, does anyone have any installed pictures of a Maxxfan, specifically from the inside? We have a wet bath and the ceiling
has a molded opening to accomodate the original 14" fan that has very round corners and I don't want to have to modify the interior
enclosure.
BELOW ARE TWO LINKS TO PHOTOS OF AN OEM FAN AND A FANTASTIC VENT FAN. THE DIMENSIONS OF THE FANTASTIC VENT FAN IS THE SAME AS THE
MAXXFAN YOU HAVE PROVIDED A LINK TO. IF YOU WANT TO INSTALL A FANTASTIC FAN OR A MAXXFAN YOU'LL HAVE TO MODIFY THE WET BATH.

The fan I'm looking at is this...
http://www.amazon.com/Maxxair-00-04000K-12V-Roof-Vent/dp/B0050EEO94/
AS NOTED ABOVE THIS FAN AND OR THE FANTASTIC VENT CAN BE FITTED BUT YOU'LL HAVE TO CUT THE FIBERGLASS ENCLOSURE AND POSSIBLY THE
ROOF AS WELL.
THE REASON I MENTIONED THE OTHER FANS IS THAT THE "FANCY TOP" OF THE MAXXFAN ALLOWS IT TO BE LEFT OPEN AND OPERATING IN A RAINSTORM
WHEREAS THE FAN YOU HAVE PROVIDED A LINK TO OR THE FANTASTIC VENT DO NOT. I FULLY REALIZE THAT SINCE YOU'RE INSTALLING THIS IN A
BATHROOM SO THAT DOESN'T REALLY MATTER, HOWEVER, IF SOMEONE IS THINKING OF REPLACING ONE OF THE FANS IN THE CENTER OF THEIR GMC THE
MAXXFAN IS BY FAR SUPERIOR AS YOU CAN LEAVE IT ON AND RUNNING IN A RAINSTORM.

I certainly don't need a remote and wonder if I need the fancy top either. Is it really worth the additional $90?
And I don't want to cut into the molded ceiling of the bathroom. Is that necessary with all replacement fans?

The small round fan is the OEM fan. All the 14" square fans have been owner installed. JmK has replacement small round fans. I suspect others do also.

As Rob pointed out, to be able to open and leave open the vent no matter
what the weather is huge. Fantastic does make a contoured cover for this
purpose but the Maxxfan is a more complete "mousetrap". It has this
feature built in and to me here in Florida it is everything. Close up
something down here and you create a petri dish where mold loves to grow--
you must vent the interior and the day I met the Maxxfan my prayers were
answered.
One important thing, the lifting vent cover is longer than thus offset from
the middle of the 14x14" opening, be sure it will fit in the spot clearing
the rest of the stuff on the roof. If you have a Pinguin rear roof AC
installed backwards to keep it on the roof, you need to be careful where
you cut the hole in the bathroom for the vent fan. Had to move a hole last
week the owner had cut for his new vent-- would not open with his AC.
Less complicated I feel the better but hey, if you like to collect remotes
get the fancy one-- they both work great.
Price-- in that they have become so popular, internet dealers are using it
as a loss leader stacking them high and selling them cheap. Good thing I
don't look to selling parts to survive -- heck, an awesome fan like that
for those kind of prices, why are you wasting time reading this.... go buy
it, I'll properly install it for you which may be more valuable.

There are two major benefits to a new fan: Ventilation and LIGHT. IMO, the light may be the biggest benefit. During the day, no lights are necessary unless you need to use the mirror to shave or put on makeup.
I installed a 'Fantastic Fan' and am extremely happy with it. The problem with the covered unit I have up front is lack of light. The Maxxair with the smoked top may let more light in. I've never seen one in person.
Here is a link to the installation post:

I wouldn't be concerned about cutting the roof or bath module ceiling....just measure twice and cut once.

Sorry, I have to disagree. As I indicated earlier, my bathroom ceiling has a molded opening for what must be the original fan. Not possible for an owner to have created that opening. Same fan as in the living area.

My coach has the Fantastic fans installed in the front hole, back hole, and in the bathroom (I replaced the small round fan). They work fine, but the amount of light that is provided by the bathroom install makes it the best modification I've done. Just look at a coach that has the original fan and then one that has the 14" square vent and you'll never want to go back to the original setup.
For the other spots, the Maxxfans make a lot of sense.

Loffen wrote on Sun, 16 November 2014 07:10...I received an Email just now saying that the late 1978 coaches had the 14x14 vent in the bathroom from the factory, do anyone have some more info ?
If that's the case, all Ken needs to do is get a Fantastic of MaxxFan and swap it out. I'd expect his original interior molded part will fit inside the new fan instead of the inner panel that comes with the new fans.

My 78 had a factory installed 14” bathroom fan. I replaced it recently with a fantastic fan. I still needed to trim the fiberglass bath insert as the original fan had rounded corners. Also the standard trim piece provided with the the fantastic fan did not completely cover the original opening. I believe larger trim pieces are available, but I just used a thick bead of calk to close the gap. I can go take a picture if anyone needs.

Broham wrote on Sun, 16 November 2014 18:11I'm not sure if anyone answered your question directly but when replacing the OEM 14 fans, you will have to cut the roof and headliner. the OEM have rounded corners however the modern fans are more, but not totally, squared off.
That's precisely the information I was after. Thanks!
