I can't believe they hauled it on the truck, it had to be extremely
top heavy. These pictures made me sick.

My reaction too. It looks dangerously overloaded. Does anyone know the model of the tow truck.

When I got Frank Sundrum's salvage coach hauled to my back yard, It came most of the way on a roll-back just like that. It had no difficulty on the country roads and railroad crossings. We couldn't two it on the rear because there is a drum locked up.

I am not suggesting that this is a best practice, but I suspect that there is some missing information. Things don't usually roll over on straight and level roads - except maybe in Michigan (still wondering why this is so common).

Does Michigan even HAVE straight and "level" roads?

Similar roll-on truck as what brought us back from Quebec City in 2010 (about 1,000Kms). It was a single rear axle and it didn't seem to have any issues handling the load as the driver said it was rated to carry a much higher load.
A strap holding down the front driver's side broke while going through Toronto. That was scary while the tow driver tried to get another strap in place, Toronto drivers are maniacs!

I wonder if having all that weight hanging behind the rear axle of the flatbed made it unstable. I've often wondered if it might be better to load the coach backwards in a tow situation.

I can't tell much about the towing vehicle from those tiny pictures. I just wonder if the tower failed to tie the coach down and it rolled off during a "sharp" or "fast" turn.

Was the towing vehicle also totaled?

My coach was towed on a "Landoll" and the AAA assigned tower chained everything down front and rear with chains.

When we had ours towed they used a wrecker that clamped on to the front wheels. It lifted them off the ground and they towed us 70 miles home with the trailer still hooked to the coach.  All went perfect.

Peter mentioned to me that the truck started to fishtale and then the truck went on to the soft shoulder and it rolled.   Fishtaling is usually caused by too much weight to the rear.

Maybe so, Ray. I'd say we'd need a full-view picture of the undamaged coach on the roll-back truck to make a more informed analysis.

It may be that the "bed" of the hauler vehicle should have been longer for better weight distribution. The Landoll that hauled mine probably had another 6-8 feet of available bed behind the rear of my coach. The rear wheels of the Landoll were behind the rear of my coach.

Careful evaluation of all factors in this case MAY lead to better understanding of what is satisfactory (or not) for hauling our coaches in the future.

190 miles, out of the mountains and to Manny's for $600. This trailer separates just in front of the nose of the coach. I could still back up so I backed on and coasted off. After he separated he towed me up Manny's hill. (I wonder why I was headed to Manny's. *smile*) Great driver.

That type of trailer is generally just called a "Landoll" --though that's the brand, and they make other types, too.

http://landoll.com/content/index.php/products/trailers/

JimB says it's absolutely the safest way to transport a GMC.

I'm pretty sure that the company that hauled my coach used a "travelling axle" trailer.

It moves the trailer axles a long way forward, lowering the approach angle for the vehicle to be hauled. Once on the trailer, the axles are moved rearward BEHIND the load and leveling the deck. Super great invention!

Larry, use a short cable with the iphone connector on one end and a USB
connector on the other.
It also works as a USB charging cable for the Iphone. Look at the pix on
the iphone and copy them to your computer, then do whatever you want with
them. That cable is available for somewhere between $5 and $15,
depending where you buy it.
Goodwill has them sometimes.
