I have a 1977 Palm Beach MH and I have been trying to find good information on winterizing it. I have not been able to find the drains and components to do a proper antifreeze winterization. I looked at the website, but am not familiar with how to find this.
Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Mark J. Ford

if my 75 is comparable:

far back of coach. on passenger side, below the seat furthest to rear of coach. is drain for the fresh water tank. and water pump is located there as well.

I pull an upholstery piece away, and there is an access panel that pulls off. It is right against the rear wall, back of that couch.

The other items needed to access, are in the bathroom, under the sink. I pull out some screws and remove the piece that my toilet paper holder is, with the sliding doors. for easy access there, but it could be done without removing that piece, from the side of the toilet.

that is where i drain the water heater.

there is a city water connection on mine as well, located in same compartment my power cord is in.

It kind of depends on a few items, for the best approach to winterizing your coach. and what temps it might see.

Mark,
The owners manual is where you find the info on winterization of your coach.
Go Here:
http://www.bdub.net/manuals/ops77/index.html

If you have the 455 in your 77 coach download the X7721A manual and go to page 105 and read thru the next few pages.
If you have the 403 in your 77 coach download the X7721B manual and go to page 105 and read thru the next few pages.

there was a thread on this in 07 that i have kept.

from Ken Burton

That is where I attach my air hose to blow out all of the lines.

Ok here is how I winterize the water system in my GMC

1. Turn on he water pump the water tank dry,

2. Transfer the two way valve I have mounted near the tank so the pump now
pumps from a small clear 1/4" hose I installed instead of the main tank.

3. Open the drain valve to the water tank and leave it open all winter.

4. Set the compressor regulator to 40 PSI and attach an air compressor to
the city water line.

5. Open all of the faucets and toliet one at a time and let the air blow
the water out.

6. Open the drain valve to the hot water tank and let the air blow all of
the water out of the tank.

7. transfer the two way valve bypassing input to the water heater.

8. Disconnect the air.

9. Thoroughly drain the black tank. You do not want it or the macerator to
freeze.

10. Insert the clear 1/4 " hose in to a 1 gallon bottle of RV antifreeze
and turn on the house water pump.

11. Go around and open each faucet (including toilet and shower) one at a
time until the water runs pink with anti-freeze. This takes less that 3
quarts for the whole coach.

12. Pour the remaining antifreeze from the one gallon bottle down the
shower drain.

The excess that went down the drains will protect them and will end up in
the macerator.

You are done and it took less than one gallon of anti-freeze and about 15
minutes. Some people do not use the antifreeze and just blowout the
system. One gallon of antifreeze is less than $3.00 at Menards and it is
cheap insurance.

I could tell you where the drains are (mostly behind the kitchen sink drawer) but it is not necessary.
It also is not necessary to blow air through the lines.
I have posted on this topic many times in the last 15 years or so.

The easiest thing is to refer you to an article that I had in the GMC Western States newsletter back in 2000.
Go to:
http://www.gmcws.org/techcenter/00-12tc31.html

It will take you less than one gallon of RV antifreeze and less that 15 minutes to do it.

You should purchase the water heater bypass and then the water tank that allow you to pump the antifreeze directly from the jug.

I suggest draining the air system filter (if you have one) and the air tank as water that collects in those places may freeze.

This is my first year with a macerator. Great addition!

I pumped the macerator mostly dry (I'm really not sure how long I pump when it spits water out every few seconds and sounds loud, do I let it go until nothing comes out?)
I ran the pink stuff through the faucets, and poured it down the drains. 2 gallons in.
Then I ran the macerator again. Because it wasn't completely empty I got foamy pinkish brownish water out into my 5 gallon bucket. Is that enough pink stuff to keep it from freezing? Should I really just keep pumping the macerator until nothing comes out for 10 seconds? I worry about overheating or over running the motor

I can pour another gallon in and see what I get but I thought I'd ask here first

thanks for any suggestion

Kelly,

Depending on how your plumbing is, what I do after finishing all the winterizing of the rest of the system is open the original three inch dump pipe and pour plumbing anti-freeze backwards thru the macerator hose. When nice pink antifreeze comes out the three inch pipe I stop. It has worked for many years.

Hm, I never thought of that. My macerator is not all that low. I'll take a look tomorrow.

To all who have macerators, how long do you pump them out? Until completely dry, no liquid coming out for 10 seconds or more?

I don’t pump mine till completely dry - just till the few dribbles are about 3 to 5 seconds apart - for normal draining of the tank after each rally/excursion!

Only second year winterizing, and last year the macerator seized. So this is the first year for me and a macerator as well.

I have winterized the rest of the plumbing, and when I came home from my last trip I basically emptied the black tank. Likely a small amount left but it's pretty empty, not dry tho. I put about a half gallon of antifreeze down the toilet and between that and what ran down the drains during the remainder of the process, there's likely about a gallon in the black tank. I ran the macerator for about 10 seconds to get the pink coming out. I shut down the pump, closed the valve and hope we are good for the winter.

We'll see come spring.
