I have all the equipment and materials to put a CB in the GMC. I'm wondering if it is worth the effort. I haven't used a CB since I stopped trying to do 20 over. (Life is too short to be in a hurry.)

Any use these days on the road? How about in a GMCMH caravan? What is your experience and current thinking.

They're kind of fun, and a good way to keep in touch if you're traveling with someone else who has one. Also one more avenue to get local help in an emergency. If something happens and your cell phone is dead or missing, odds are you can contact someone who could at least pass your location on the the local authorities.

I listen to it when the traffic get heavy or there is a stoppage on the road and you can get local info when needed. I find it useful when needed.

I plan on putting one in my truck... Just cannot figure out where I want to put it. The mini ones suck. Gotta get a Cobra 29LTD. (edited)

Get a Ham Ticket and be done with it. Tech class is very easy. No Morse Code. Lots of repeaters everywhere. Auto patch for emergency traffic in many places. Modern equipment can be hidden anywhere.
Ham Radio beats the heck out of CB for convoy. No foul mouth bad language.
Lots of GMCers have tickets.

AND the little 2 meter and 70cm hand held radio from China are small and
cheap.
BaoFeng UV-3R (2-Pack) $64.95
or
BaoFeng UV-B6 (2-Pack) (has a keypad) $77.95

I've got a couple of the UV-3Rs and they work nicely and are about the
size of a cigarette pack.
I've no interest in that site, didn't even get mine from there.

Every time someone comes up with that question I suggest an alternate solution.

Go buy a megaphone.

They have about the same range ans CB and do not require any electrical power or any unsightly antennas and costs less. You can easily remove one from the coach and use it portable or in another vehicle. It is also highly directional so multiple people can use them at the same time on the same frequency.

I have one in the Stretch. I use it whenever I'm traveling with
friends with their Motorhomes. Invaluable when traveling in areas
without cell coverage. I have one in the dune buggy when out on the
sand with other buggy friends.

I agree. The CB radio is fun.

Entertaining when the truckers are blabbing, Has warned me of smokies and accidents on many occasions. The other radios won't do that.

They are simple to install and don't cost that much. I think you can still get a 23 channel CB cheap but a 40 channel is better. If you really are into it, get a cb sidebander, maybe not many around though but were used for skip talk as well as extended range.

They even have antennas that stick to the glass so you dont have to run a cable or drill holes.... transmits to outside antenna through the glass, how about that? Can't get much simpler.

I was an avid cber in the 70's and the crowds have gone away but the truckers still travel with their CB's and can be helpful at times.

Since the cb's are so small now and can be a real entertainment value as well as a warning device, I'd say put it in. It won't take that long to install, what do you have to lose?
