Hi all.
I think I have an easy question for you fellows. I started my generator
the other day and she was leaking oil out the bottom pretty good. Looks
like it has a large oil pan on the bottom that attaches to the engine.
Does this part have a large gasket or how does it seal to bottom of of
engine block
Thanks
Marcel in El Paso

Here's a link to the 6KVA Onan Service Manual: http://www.bdub.net/manuals/Onan/Onan6kwNH_Major-Service.pdf

I'll let you do the legwork and lookup your own answer, it's Sunday. ;-)

Marcel,

Be sure you check the low oil pressure switch before you take any thing else apart. Very common leak source.

Marcel,

Also check the two oil filter adapter stud nuts. They tend to loosen up and you will have a big oil leak.

I just went on your web site, terrific. I looked at the rebuilding of
the generator. I have the leak and it appears to be coming from around
the gaskets that finds itself between engine and the large bolt on oil
pan. I removed the two long bolts and two short ones on the bottom.
The oil pan will not come loose. Are there a few bolts on the front I
over looked. It would appear the bracket that holds the starter is
bolted to the oil pan. Do these bolts find themselves behind the
flywheel? Any help would help
Thanks
Marcel

I would like to thank all you guys for your ideas regarding my Onan
generator. I got determined yesterday and took the beast apart. I
might add it was a learning experience and a bit of a challenge. The
problem was traced down to the gasket between the large oil pan and the
engine. It looked as if some one had removed it and when it was
replaced the fellows used some permatex on top of the old gasket. If
any one wants to know how to take the beast apart please let me know.
One done not really that difficult. Again thanks to all
