I was wondering since the HEI ignition coil in the cap has a primary and secondary aspect to voltage and if you keep on cranking on the engine and starter does it add voltage to the coil until I get the engine to start? Or is the voltage constant regardless of the amount of turning over the engine? I am still experiencing difficulties with popping noises in my carb and have since eliminated bad gas, have installed new plugs, tested the module, coil, and spark plug wires. I should note that I have the crossover plates installed and have not yet installed an electric choke. I never had this problem until well after my upper half had been redone. Thanks, My cap and rotor seem OK. Though I do get jolted every once in awhile when touching the plug wires at the terminals on the cap. Thanks gentlemen for any input.

No, it doesn't add. That you get bit by the wires indicates the coil is producing high voltage.

Soulds like a classic choke issue. It should fully close with one pedsl apply cold then open about 3/16 via the vac pulloff a couple seconds after starting. With blocked passages you would need alternate choke signal or electric. . The fact you are getting zapped is not right. You have bad wires or they are not snaped tight on the plugs the wires should insulate past the max voltage of the coil. Are the boots split or scratched inside? A scratch inside the rubber boot at cap termina or at wire exit gives an air path for spark to jump

I found my lead wire to the coil was slightly loose. I recrimped a fitting and still a hard start. I figure I have two problems. A choke that needs help and an ignition issue. My popping noise went away then came back after the crimp job. I pulled the cap and rotor off and inspected for wear and there is a slight glaze on all the terminals. Anyway, I appreciate the help and will purchase some new electrical stuff. My carb is not flooding out as much and seems stronger as a result of fixing the terminal hookup. Thanks
