Well, The Beast has found a new home; Shoreline, which seems to have an attraction for GMCs.
A nice couple with plans to keep the Beastie traveling a lot.
Just to prove I'm not totally sane ... as if there was ever a doubt ... I picked up a '77 Jaguar XJ6-C over the weekend.
Beautiful paint,so-so interior, lots of fun to drive.
We may not be able to travel far, but Damn, we will do it in STYLE!!
Good luck to all, thanks for all the help and encouraging words, I couldn't have done it without you.
A Special thanks to Jim K. Sometimes those phone calls were as much about the laughter as the answers.

Oh, you can do lots of things in a jaguar if you are limber enough, it would just be more comfortable in a GMC...

Reminds me of the F16 pilot and the C5 pilot talking back and forth while they were flying in formation on a trans ocean flight:

The F16 pilot is bragging about how superior his craft was, and to prove it executed a series of loops and rolls before rejoining the formation.
The C5 Pilot replies "thats nothing, watch this" and the big plane just flew on, straight and level.
After a few minutes the C5 pilot came back on and said "that is why the C5 is superior."
F16 pilot is incredulous and says "you didn't do anything!"
C5 pilot says "I got up stretched my legs, used the restroom, fixed a cup of coffee, ate a sandwich..."

Mitch,
I could have bought 2 XJ6C about 4 years ago around the time the Pueblo GMCMI rally was held and we were in US for $US1000 in the Denver area but was not really interested as I am pretty much XKE and XJS follower. They were running but still were projects to be made easy saleable. On returning to Australia I found they would have been worth shipping as I could have profited on doing so even though they were LHD. Did you have to pay much for yours as the price would have gone up I assume? I would buy one now as I have an 78 xj6 Sovereign dieing in my yard and all the RHD requirements are there.
Cost to bring to Australia Purchase price ??
Shipping A$4500
Convert to RHD parts only A$1000
RHD car XJ6 C would be here currently priced from rough A$6000 to good driver on the road $15000

I paid slightly more than I had planned, but the paint and chrome are near perfect. The leather is well worn, but we'll see if some careful treatment will help it.
The engine has some leak issues, and there is a minor exhaust leak.
That being said, the PO is a vintage Jag racer (E type 6, E type 12, XK 140)so the steering rack is precise, the BW transmission shifts solidly, and she hugs the road like a cat.
Add to that - as low as the car sits, my wife with her bad back, can get in and out easily and the seat supports her perfectly.
Price/ slightly below $10K US.
These are getting as hard to find as a good MK 2.
As to E Types - as you know the sky's the limit, but the XJS is selling for 2-3 grand for a driver.
What's parts availability like down there?
Oh, and what's the conversion rate?

Mitch,
Conversion for the XJC is cheap 'Do it yourself' deal as RHD XJ6 parts are plentifull, a complete donor car can be had for $500 to $600 and then you have all the RHD parts necessary and what is left over can be sold off probably getting back what was paid out for the donor car. As far as XJC's go they are rare and those that do come up for sale are usually pristine or a car imported from Hongkong which is full of rust. XJS are cheap here also unless they are convertible. E types (XKE) are double the price they are in the US. I am always looking and buying parts for the e type from the US and I ship out of Seattle and usually the parts or cars I find are in the lower eastern states which means the freight becomes an issue to consider. Rob Mueller is a good friend to me as he goes over to the US so often and he operates out of Texas which is more central. I bother him to ship parts to and if he can he will bring them back for me or on ship them.

Hello All,

I have taken over in caring for Mitch's GMC, drove it home on Tuesday. It made it just fine. Runs like a champ.

We live in Shoreline and hope to be using it quite a bit. We travel around and do the Hobie Cat racing, in addition to camping trips.

Would love to meet some of the GMCers in Shoreline and The Seattle area. There is a lot I don't know about the GMC motorhome and it would be great to be able to draw on local experience.

Mike,

Welcome to the group, family, cult, asylum....
You have just met a bunch of old friends that you probably didn't know you had.
Good to have another sailor in the group. I have sailed multi-hull, but sailing one was the only time I ever got bad hurt sailing so these days I just stay with keel boats and even at that, I don't race much any more.

You are already on GMCnet and that is great.
If you have any questions or problems, come back here before you do or buy anything.

Next, because it helps us help you, go to the control panel of the forum and fill in a sigfile. You are halfway there already.

Lastly, as I soon discovered that this group is so like the watermen that were all of my life, I decided to welcome new owners here much as a new owner or vessel would be welcomed there with paraphrase of an ages old greeting. So,

May the Good Lord Bless this coach and all those that set forth within her.

Welcome Mike.
