About this time last year I had some work done at Applied GMC. While there I purchased a replacement for the original bathroom fan that was shedding dust and dirt and causing my wife to complain. After sufficient procrastination I've begun installing the new one. Two questions:
The original has a one wire connection. The ground goes to the fan body/frame. The replacement is much lighter and a second wire, presumably ground. Any suggestions as to an appropriate place to connect the ground wire?
The factory install used rivets, probably 3/16 x 1/2 (a guess because I had to drill them out). Any opinions as to rivets or screws (14 x 1/2 or 14 x 3/4)?
An aside. Here in the Pacific Northwest we do not have mud dauber wasps. My coach came from Florida. After 4 years I'm still finding very durable dauber nests. The fan had three.

Jim,
I personally would not replace the small round fan with another small round fan. Most people I know have used a 14” X 14” vent fan such as a these units.

or

These are a little more expensive but they really brighten up the bath. No longer like you standing in a closet.
I found a vent fan assembly at a surplus RV place and if you go to you local RV dealer you might be surprised what you might find.

Replacing my round fan with the Fantastic Fan was the best change I made to the coach. Remove the old fan, find where the stiffening ribs are, measure twice and cut once and you'll never look back!

I really like the 14" vent/fan that was installed in the bath of our coach. It's a discontinued Shurflo Comfort Air fan.
But the interesting part (but not overly related to this thread) is that it started running intermittently a while ago and then completely stopped running altogether one day.
I figured it was a fuse. But when I opened it up, the control board had been running hot enough to release a soldered TO-220 voltage rectifier and it dropped down to a plastic bezel below the board!
Haven't repaired it yet - will need to investigate further before running it again...

Jim,
I have the same fan as you and have no problems with it. I am happy with it and don't
need the stress and problems of opening another leak hole or making a hole that cuts
wires or a hole that is too big. Mine is just fine and I leave it open when the coach is in storage
for air circulation with no drips.

Jim,
A word of caution here! Don’t ever let the wife see one that has been updated with the skylight/fan assembly. Ask me how quick I put the new fan/skylight in. I have never had any leak issues. The only wires in that area are leads to the fan.

Well that is true IF the wires were put in the correct place. If not, you may be replacing the wires to the water heater. Don't ask how I know.

Is it because the wires to the hot water heater run across the top of the coach along with the low voltage wires???

Rob, if physically possible, attach a heat sink to that voltage requlator. If it is that hot, it needs a heat sink. Almost any piece of metal will do the job. Does not need to be a formal heat sink. It will help keep your repair repaired.

Yeah - thanks. On the way home today I was thinking that I'm pretty sure I have some heatsinks around here that snap onto that regulator. It will likely make all the difference that is required.
I didn't want to pull the entire board from the fan - so I may take my cordless (butane) soldering iron to the coach and re-solder it.

Yes - I have about 300lbs of old GMCMH parts, removed from mine, in the corner of the barn. Their your's. All you have to do is come and get them within the next week.
According to the books the wires to the water heater and the water heater switch should run in the aluminum frame member. They were mounted to the face of the channel. I didn't sever them but nicked one of the conductors enough that I decided to replace it.

Thanks for all the comments and advice. I am continuing with the round fan, have it working, just need to complete install. An earlier owner installed a skylight. Edge to edge is 24". An additional 14 inch hole seems unnecessary. I've put LEDs in the bathroom fixture and it is bright. With two Fantastics, air circulation is not a problem. I'll try to post pictures when the work is completed.

As the Italian waiter says upon your food request---- Good Choice---- Yes,
a big fan does make a difference in that small room and if things could be
perfect yea-- what the heck but Jim G. said it best--- I have the small
one, it's in, working great, does not leak and does what is needed AND I
don't have to do anything! These coach were built in "production"-- I
would call it more of a one off production line. Yea, I find panels that
people have signed, found a lunch bag and a coffee cup behind a panel
once. You can see vise marks on the exterior compartment hinges from a guy
beating them into the proper shape. Oh and if you are talking about a
Coachman or other built up Transmode-- man all bets are off! Depends on
which guy was on the floor that day! GM floorplan coaches we are talking
about with the bath fan is much more standard but still, I do see renegade
work on so many.
I have "fart fans" in 3 of the coaches I call mine-- of course "the
plumbers pipes always leak" and I don't have time to work on my stuff AND
everything else so replacing the original with another original is my SOP
for me. Someday maybe I'll have the time to max out every idea I wanna do,
until then I do the best I can that day...
