I have the upper seal kit for the steering box and it includes an o-ring for what looks like the adjusting ring. I replaced the seal but it Still seems to be leaking. It's leaking from around the threads of the adjusting ring. I'm always a little skeptical of screwing around with adjustments on the steering gear, especially since I have no steering issues (except for the leak). Is this as simple as marking where it was and screwing it back on with the new o-ring? I hope so, but hope some of the experts can offer some tips. The seal was very easy to do in the coach. I'm hoping for the same here.
Thanks all! for all of your help!!

Daryn, one cause that I am aware of for a failed seal is a plugged filter
(that brass tube that screws into the windshield wiper motor) It can be
unscrewed and cleaned and reinstalled. You might try that before fooling
with the seal. It might solve the leaking problem.

I've already changed the seal. Did it easily in the coach. I'm just a little skeptical about removing the adjusting plug. I was always told not to mess with these things. I'm almost certain the o-ring is the problem. What Jim said is very possibly the cause. I had put a transmission filter on the line last year when I changed the original box with a used one. My intention was to just leave it in long enough to clean the leftover old fluid and take it off next year. This year, after using the coach much more than expected, I kept saying to myself, "take it off! You know it's clogged by now" but sadly, I never did. I am assuming I'm the one who caused the problem by procrastinating

Anyway, does anybody have any experience dealing with removing the adjusting plug ( the plug on the top of the box that adjusts the thrust setting) and what I should watch out for. How critical is the adjustment? Can I just mark it and screw it back to the same spot? The seal was very easy to do in the coach. I think there is plenty of room to remove the plug.
Thanks all, I hope there is someone here that has done this before so I just don't wrench on it till I break something else.

At this point I would remove the box and follow the Wirth guide writeup to do the adjustment on the input shaft and the preload. I used a 2 ton floor jack under the box to gently lower and reinstall it if you don't have a second set of hands. You will need an inch/lb torque wrench not a ft/lb. The only way to set the thing by ear in vehicle is to adjust till there is no delay from input to output when on both sides if center through center. Over adjust and you risk damage.
