G'day,
If you're considering having new a windscreen (Aussie for windshield) installed I just wanted to note that after having the ones in
Double Trouble replaced at the Amana Convention Helen and I COULD NOT believe how much clearer the new ones were. It was WOW from
the both of us! Evidently the surface gets "sand blasted" over the years. The new windscreens have a very slight green tint to them
which is perfect as far as we were concerned.
I replaced them because the passenger side had a crack in it and both of them were fogged. To prevent fogging in the new windscreens
Ken Detterling (the installer) applies black RTV between the glass and the seal. He can also seal the edges of the windscreen with a
special paint; however, doing so carries a charge.
KenD told me that the reason they fog is that over the years dirt gets in between the seal and the windscreen, migrates to the
bottom of the seal channel and retains moisture whenever it rains. The retained moisture is absorbed by the "plastic" material in
between the glass and causes it to turn milky.
I decided pay KenD to coat the edges of my new windscreens while I cleaned the dirt out of the seal channel with Q-Tips and 409. You
would not believe how much crap came out the first pass with the Q-Tips. When I was done it was spotless. KenD noted that the
chances of my new windscreens fogging up considering that I had cleaned the channel, he coated the edges and applied black RTV
between the glass and the seal was virtually NIL!
If you decide to have your windscreens replaced I am sure you'll be happy with the outcome.

Rob M

Kim already announced this in the GMCMI news letter, but today I got a firm commitment from the windshield installation guys. So
today around noon I opened up registration / scheduling.
These will be installed during the rally on Saturday September 27 and Sunday September 28 ONLY.
I have room in the schedule for up to 16 MAXIMUM. Four of those slots are filled as of 4PM today.
If you want more details or to reserve a slot contact me at n9cv at Comcast dot net now. If you are reserving a slot please give me
your name, address (for the receipt), home phone, and cell phone if you will have one at the rally.
Also give me your insurance company information if this will be an insurance claim. Insurance claims usually need to be
pre-approved. They will not take all insurance companies due to the extended times some of them take to pay their claims. If you
have one of those companies or a Canadian company he will issue you a receipt that you can turn in to your company for payment.
This is first come, first served offering.
Besides doing them at the rally, there is one additional pair of windshields in stock in their shop in Merrillville, Indiana (NW
Indiana near Chicago) that could be installed in their shop on your way to or from the rally. These could be installed ONLY on
Saturdays (September 20th or Saturday October 4th would probably be a good choice).
So make your reservation NOW. The previous two times that we did this at GMCMI rallys we had more people wanting them than we had
slots available.
I will not put my telephone number on the net, but if you wish to call me, then look up my number on the Black List or PM/email me
and I'll send it to you.
Ken
