Considering up grading my intake manifold to an Edelbrock performer manifold.

Not sure but it has 2 different carb mounting options so may be able to lose my adapter plate for my Holley EFI Throttle Body.

Anyone else running one, pros, cons, etc.

Jared,

I most emphatically would NOT consider that an upgrade.

My coach came, in '98, with that manifold, including the 4"+ raised engine
hatch which is mandatory when using it. While rebuilding the engine, I
discovered that it had cracked where the crossover runners entered the
plenum beneath the carburetor. I had it welded up and ran that way for a
few thousand miles. Then I learned about the excessive heat from the
crossover and about Mondello's procedure for pouring zinc into the
crossover. When I talked to Edelbrock, I was told that there should have
been plugs placed in the intake ports of the heads. They sent them to me
free of charge, and I installed them according to their instructions:
Ground to fit tightly into the ports.

After about 20,000 miles, I was tired of the raised engine hatch so
acquired an iron manifold to replace the Edelbrock. Talk about lucky! The
photo album below shows just how lucky -- I was not far from having those
plugs destroy both cylinder heads. The collateral damage would have
totalled the engine. The plugs had severely worn the heads, to the extent
that the head bolts passing between the adjacent exhaust runners were
exposed through the cylinder head material -- you'll see the oval wear
patterns in the photos. The next event, within a very few thousand more
miles would have been holes worn into the water jacket. I know personally
of one other GMCer who was not so lucky -- the consequent hydraulic lock
bent rods, etc. I've heard of several other similar incidents.

If you DO go ahead with the Edelbrock, you'll find that they REQUIRE the
use of those plugs to preserve the warranty (

After replacing the Edelbrock with an OEM manifold, I realized that I was
receiving no benefit from it below 4000 rpm. :-)

Wow, after seeing the pictures and reading your testimonial I an certain I will be sticking with my iron manifold.

That was EXACTLY the type of information I was looking for.

Thanks Ken,

Jared

I scored one for cheap at a swap meat in good condtion and was considering running it.

I have run performers in other applications. Most recently in a 460 in a 72 Lincoln MKIV and it was a noticable improvenment off idle and up.I wish it would take a Qjet rather than the Holley 600 I have though.

I spent a fair amount of time on the phone with Edelbrock on the phone. Their curve showed a 15ft/# advantage at 3000. Torque is much more relevent for us than HP.Even if correct, by the time you buy the manifold, modify the cover and the labor involved, is it worth it? For most, probably not, and it would certainly not pay for itself in milage increase.

Well, I still havent. I may yet. Pretty far down the list but I also have an FI unit I want to try.
Powertech in St Pete has a chassis dyno That the GMC will fit on, so maybe we will see.

The stock manifolds have been known to crack too. I would block the passage in any case if I had it apart.
BTW the Olds model does have dual bolt patterns.
