Morning,

SWMBO has decided to have our first outing during the Easter Holidays in
2015. So if anyone has ideas on what to do with a mobile home between
April 1st, and April 17th starting from/ returning to Farmville, VA, I'd
love to hear from you.

Hiking, city-seeing, beach-going, driving panoramic routes are things we
like.

Stay to the south. While it won't be cold north of Farmville it won't be real warm either. If you want to do beaches you definitely need to head south. Nothing short of the Gulf beaches or FL for the Atlantic will be warm enough to swim comfortably. Great Smokey Mountains National Park is beautiful that time of year. Don't know how long you are planning for, but head south down the Atlantic Coast hitting Hilton Head, Savanah, St Augustine, Kennedy Space Center, Miami and the FL Keys then go back north through Tampa, Orlando, Panama City, New Orleans, Memphis, Nashville, and Gatlinberg. That's at least two to four weeks depending on how much time you want to spend in each spot.
Might be too far to hit the Keys and New Orleans if you plan to see all the other spots.

I think Jeremy nailed it. You say you're looking at about 17 days. I would(and have)
head south on I95 and head to the Keys, stopping along the way. There are a lot of nice
places and beaches that time of year. Maybe take in Key West for a day but parking a GMC
could be a bear but there are parking lots that you can use (for a fee).
On the way home take "alligator alley" over to I75 north to Atlanta then I81 home.

Excellent place to start from. Plan on going to U.S. Civil War battle sites, plenty there. Do the Skyline Drive - Blue Ridge Parkway - GMC can do it easily. Charlottesville has a very nice restored walking downtown, touristy, but pretty.
Wilmington, N.C. has very nice beaches, probably a little too cool to get in the water.
I would expect that from Farmville, to the much warmer South is a two to three day drive, depending upon your tolerance for sitting in the driver's seat for a long period of time.
JohnR and I drove my coach from Northern VA to Florida Gulf Coast in two days, but one day was about a thousand miles (1,600 KM). Straight down I-95.
Williamsburg, VA is a restored historic town that is worth the visit, if you head to the Virginia Beaches (they will be cold). Stop in Old Yankee Candle Shop and saw "Hi" to Santa Claus. Ask him about his GMC.
Driving the North Carolina Coast is nice, take the GMC on the Free N.C. State Ferries - that way you get an Ocean voyage also. Drive the Outer Banks.
Charleston and Savannah are worth seeing. Slim picking for RV parks around Charleston.
Send for tourist information from the States that you plan to travel in. You will get a million more ideas. Be sure and ask for their State campground guides.
Keep the net posted as your planning progresses.

I'm with Phipps - do the Blue Ridge. In that it parallels the Appalachian Trail for a ways, you can stop off a day or two and hike. I 95 is like I 75 - a very crowded bad joke. Eschew it if you can, and take your time on the 'blue roads.' Wander through Atlanta if you'd like to see the only cosmopolitan big city in the Southeast. Book one night at Chateau Elan and stay in the chateau. This will be the 'posh' night of your trip. run down at least to Orlando if you've never seen The Mouse. If you have, skip that part unless you want to have a look at Jim Bounds place, which is worth a bit of a detour. Buzz over to Tampa and do Ybor City. The Gulf beaches are better than the Atlantic ones by far, hit one of the Florida Gulf beaches. Every Florida state campground I've been in is far better than any KOA I've been in, book a space in them. Book ahead, I booked Wekiwa Springs for a week in early December last month and it was already beginning to fill. Beyond that, I tend to just say OK, we need to be at Thus-and-so Show on Thursdayy night, we can meander till we get there. "That road looks interesting, let's go down there for a while" is my style.

Thanks for all the tips so far. I especially like the scenic route
descriptions.

One thing that I *really* want to do, is pictured here:

Should anyone have ideas outside of Cape Cod on where that is possible,
I'd appreciate it.

If you want to see the Gulf from your GMC, here are two recommendations.
1. Red Coconut RV Resort, Ft. Myers, Fl. Has sites that are just above high tide line.
2. Gulf Shores State Park, Gulf Shores, Al. Totally rebuilt after Hurricane Katerina.
Bound to be others, lots of shore line to cover.

Peer,
Well, you could always stop at the GMCMI rally in Patterson LA. Rally is March 27th to April 2nd., then head east along the coast and into Florida. We'd love to see and meet you there. I don't think we've met...have we???

I'd love to. I am not sure, I'll be able to make it, as I'll arrive in
the US no earlier than April 1st.

And no, I don't think we have met in this life. Yet. :)

Looks like a fun trip. I've made most of it one time or anopther, but never tried all of it in the GMC.

Looks like a lot of fun! The Tidewater Crabs usually get together for our first "pre-rally" of the season down in the Williamsburg area typically 2nd or 3rd week of April. Keep us updated on your plans. Would love to get together if you'll be in the area.
