Gonna get Zip Dee awnings installed on both sides. Since we are in striking range of the factory I plan to have them do the install. What should I look at or do before to ease the installation process?. Or is there anything I will wish I had done before the installation that I oughta do now?

Here are pictures of what I see that are part of what causes me to ask the above question. It just looks like there is not a lot of room up there for the awning.

OK - answered one of my questions here:

clearance light will have to be moved.
The main question now is the refrigerator vent clearance.

Geez Rob, I would think the factory would have all this covered. Now I'm starting to wonder if the installation will be what I would expect it to be. I guess I'm gonna have to ask a lot of questions.

Zip Dee kit is lot better than the others.
What Rob mentioned is more of an suggestion and not that they are purposly
omite.
I will send a note to Jim Webb, President of Zip Dee.

Don't worry about ZipDee not doing it right. They designed the GMC one so that the lower mounts will go into a frame member just behind the propane door and just in front of the large side window. The upper mounts also go into very secure areas so there should not be any concern on your part. In additio to lags or screws they also use a 1/4" pop rivet in each bracket to keep things from moving. The factory knows how to install them right. I am not sure if all of their dealers do though, so if you are having it done at the factory that is great.
The factory has been installing these since the 1973 GMCs came off the assembly line. The company founder, Henry Duda, designed the first one about 1965 for the curved Airstream travel trailer. It was easy to adapt this design to the GMC motorhome when it started in 1973. The name ZipDee came about because of Duda's name. The song, Zip-pa-dee doudah, was in the Walt Disney movie Song of the South.
I had met Henry Duda at an FMCA convention back in 1972 and I ordered a ZipDee for my Travco motorhome. I put one on my GMC when I bought it in 1981 and the brackets and arms and fabric have lasted for 33 years now.
Henry died in 1985 and the company is now run by his daughter and his son-in-law, Bob Miller. Bob still attends the FMCA conventions and I saw him at one a couple of years ago.

I installed a Used Zip Dee last year. I had a major part missing on my used awning, and had to get a piece direct from zip dee.(new slat, and what they term the "flex key") My experience with the correct people at zip dee is they know GMC's and they know their awning. If talking to them, and they do not instill you with 100% confidence, ask for someone else. I would not worry much about how they would install your awning. If you have to install it yourself, Call me up... I will offer my lessons learned, that are fresh in my head from last year. I do know to NOT follow the instructions you find online, or with the awning. Instructions for mounting can be discussed over a very short phone call.
The moving of the rear marker light, is a trick. something I could only really explain over the phone. do not pull on the wires!
as far as your question, the only other thing I can think of, would be making sure your rain gutter side rails are sealed and done for the long term. moving the zip dee aside to pull the rails to seal them, would be extra work on that job.
