Why does my BriskAire II drip on the floor?? [message #258938]

I'm not sitting perfectly level but it drips condensation out the front vent. Especially when I shut it off.

Is there a plugged up drain or is it just because we're not level?

I have a nearly-new Brisk Air II as well. A condensation-producing
unit, for sure. Mine just drips off the side of the coach. The door
side, naturally. You wouldn't notice it so much on the other side. I
think I need to do some creative dam building.

But dripping out an internal vent? My guess is you don't have it sealed
to the roof well, unless there's something assembled incorrectly at the
factory.

If it like the other rooftop units I have known, there are two good possibilities....
The easy one is that the inside filter is clogged. When this happens the negative pressure in the case is so much that the condensate won't drain out the way it is supposed to do. Some filters can just be pulled out so you can beat them on something, but others you have to take down the inside cover.
The less easy one is the drain is clogged with (cotton wood fluff, old dead leaves, birds nests......) you have to get up there and remove the 46 or 53 screws in the case and avoid the glass fiber sticking out of the cover so you can pull it open and see what you need to remove.

I had a Dometic Penguin that dripped inside like crazy when we went to our 1st GMC rally a few years ago in a very hot and humid Palm Springs. What I eventually found out was that the PO had caulked with silicone all around the base of the unit on the roof side . He was probably trying to stop the leaking inside. The real problem I found when I removed the unit was that the Styrofoam drip pan under the evaporator had a big hole in it from the PO or someone trying to clean out the drain hole from the side of the unit. His subsequent caulking around the base only made the problem worse as the dripping water was trapped inside and overflowed into the coach.

To get at the evaporator you have to remove the shroud and some internal sheet metal housing. Once removed you can see the evaporator which has the Styrofoam drip pan under it. The drip pan has a drain spout the allows the condensed water to drip underneath the unit and on to the roof where it simply runs off to the side of the coach.

I had to loosen and bend the evaporator to the side to get at and patch the hole in the Styrofoam so the water would flow its intended path way to the roof. Also took hours to remove all that silicone from the roof so I could pull the AC unit off to do the repairs.

I recently had that old AC replaced with a new Atwood 15K BTU unit by a local shop. They said it is a common problem that owners caulk around the base of the roof AC to try to stop leaks. They end up charging several hours extra labor to remove the silicone caulking so they can remove a unit.

It's draining onto the roof so that portion is working OK. I'll pull the inner cover tomorrow and see if I can spot the source.

I've had the same problem for the past few humid trips, Kerry. I haven't
yet gotten tuit to fix it. Need to do that ASAP. Oh yeah -- it WILL
continue to drip outside also.
