I have been fighting a lean issue when driving that all I can narrow it down to at this point is a cracked or warped intake manifold. I recently pulled/replaced my 403 due to warped heads from overheating so it is not a big stretch to have the manifold warped as well.
If I'm going to pull the stock manifold out, I will be replacing it with an aluminum one.
Hence the question: What will fit without creating a engine cover doghouse for clearance?
I have scoured the net for an answer but found much conflicting information so I thought I'd waste some electrons and post the question here. The two manifolds I have been looking at are the Edelbrock Performer #2711 and the Rockwell. Anyone have an opinion they wish to share on either of these products?
The second question is I had stumbled across an online calculator that had been posted that would tell you how much engine cover clearance would need to be created as long as you had the "A" and "B" measurements from the manifold but I cannot find it again. Anyone happen to know where to find that?
Thanks in advance for your time

If you never plan on replacing the 403 with a 455 I'd go with the Edelbrock.

The Rockwell manifold fits the 455 and not the 403.

Edlebrock does make one for the 403 and smaller V-8s. I do not know the height on it and if it will fit and still clear the floor on a GMC. I'm not that famil1ar with the 403. A call to Dick Paterson or Jim K. will give you better advice.

Why not just pull the manifold and send it to a local machine shop. It can be checked for cracks and maybe be shaved if it is warped.

I would definitely talk to Dick P. or Jim K.

There was a factory stock oldsmobile aluminum intake on some 307s called the A4. I think the ports are same as or nearly the same as a 403.
The A4 flows about as well as a stock cast iron intake, but weighs only 1/3 as much. The A5 has tiny ports and should be avoided at all costs. A4s came on 81-85 307 motors, the A5s came on 86-up 307s. I have ocasionly seen them on ebay or Craigslist. I've seen A4s selling for as little as $15.

The 403 did not have a specific "low" manifold in the GMC so you have lots of production choices - both iron and aluminum" I would go here to pick the best one and go to a junk yard:
