It started. This noon I left El Cajon with 6 new tires (and a probably
blown boot on the front driver's side). Successfully crossed the
mountains without a hitch, and finally made it into Arizona. I must say,
Arizonans do have it nice and cosy here. With 110-120F in the coach I
don't really freeze anymore. Atm I am around 100mls away from the I8-I10
junction. Let's see how far I get today.

Ride On, Peer Oliver!
Yes, I know the way well in a GMC. It's a memorable, pretty nice view going into New Mexico. Enjoy the ride. I may see you in Denton. DW is requiring a lunch in Dallas with friends, but maybe two vehicles going up there and I will be free. May bring a good friend who belongs in a GMC only doesn't know it yet!

Update: Coach is running well. After 1200mls added a quart of oil today. That's about it.
Apart from the gmcforum messages not arriving in my email, everything looks fine and dandy. Infact, everything is so good, that I will be in the Dallas area this noon, and will leave it a bit later this afternoon. Sorry for not being able to touch bases with you on Sunday.
Edit: The email problem is on my side, just to make sure nobody is trying to chase a problem that does not exist.

Peer Oliver,
Sorry to have missed you. Have permission to go to Denton tomorrow, so it looks like I will use the opportunity to go to Harbor Fright instead! All is good. I think it's great you are having a good trip. Ahead of schedule!

eMail is good again. Helps to be ones own postmaster to fix stuff when
it breaks :)
To recap: Thursday was heat all over, and I made it to Benton. Next
morning I was awoken by rain... In AZ?! What the heck. Well, time to get
up, and... yes, the wiper is working. Using it was a bit strange at
first, but in the end things worked out nicely.
Made it to Van Horn, TX on Friday.
Saturday, 4:30h wake-up call, needed to get some pants from my parking
provider aka Walmart, as all my stuff had soaked through due to me not
using the house a/c all the time, but enjoying the warmth of the south.
Made it DFW arena, and had my first stop'n'go traffic there. Someone
decided it would be a grand idea to close I-35. Great. Took all but 20
minutes additional time, but made in time to still called it noonish to
Denton. Unfortunately, Nokia's Here Map thought it would be nice to see
the backroads of Denton, cause it might be a bit shorter whatever. It
was NOT nice driving the GMC there, as the steering has a softspot in
the middle that is as wide as a sports car needs turning abilities to
complete the Nurburgring in record time. Makes for interesting driving
when you have narrow road and somebody is coming your way, and the last
time new asphalt was put on the road coincides with the time Gerald Ford
became president. Not nice.
Anyway, had a nice 1,5hr chat with a buddy in Denton, and moved on. Some
more rain, some more wake-up events, whenever I did not notice the
18-wheelers blasting by, and sending me at least 20 yds to the right... :)
Now I am in Lonoka, AK and haven't decided whether or not to drive a bit
further or just call it a night.
@Rob Mueller: After my incident with DFW driving I'd rather not make any
more detour, except if it would help the GMC in any way, shape or form.
I want to minimize the amount of stress on the front boot/bearing. If
you would be able to assist in fixing that, that would certainly lessen
my fears of adding additional miles. Text me if you can help
(+49-172-9731418) as I problaby won't be able to get online tomorrow
morning.
Everybody: Good night, wherever you might listen. :)

Dennis,
> Lonoke, AR, is only 130 miles west of Memphis -- you are making lots

yep, things are progressing nicely. Crossed into VA this afternoon.
Would have the change to complete the journey tonight, but will instead
visit my preferred parking lot and go some shopping in the morning
Today was another un-eventful day. Everything worked as far as it
should, got another quart of oil in, and realized that the faster you
drive the better the handling :) Today was not a 10mpg day :D
I don't have that many pics, just the standard pics ever tourist does
when driving around, i.e. Arizona desert, New Mexico rain, DFW traffic
stuff like that. Nevertheless, I'll upload once I am at half way decent,
i.e. non McD., wifi.

Trip is done. Arrived at my final destination in Farmville, VA at 11:45
today, after taking it very slow the two days, with just an hour drive
each day from Walmart to Walmart to final destination. Some McD and
Starbuck's sprinkled in for good measure.
My result for the trip:
* Make sure you have good tires
* Make sure your GMC has been driven constantly, as has been highlighted
in the manual, at least once a month for 30 minutes or so
* Dash A/C is overrated
* Generator is very nice.
* House A/C is nice.
* Driving the GMC is nice and fairly quiet. The loudest thing during
normal driving speed with the window down was the dash fan that really
need to be replaced :)
* I could have and should have taken the time to stop Knoxville and get
an honest opinion on what to do with the GMC. Next time Rob :)
* I hate driving in and around DFW
* Driving on smaller highways, like the last hour or so on route 460 is
very relaxing, but I am happy that the interstate system exists, as it
really helped me covering miles.
* Total oil fill ups for these 2600mls => around 2,25qts
* Total gas fill ups for these 2600mls => no idea (and don't wanna know)
but in the range of 1300USD.
Now I relax for the next 2 days here in Farmville, and fly out of
Richmond on Friday morning.
Thank you for listening. Where ever you might be.

As far as I know the only thing around Farmville is Hampden-Sydney College. Considering they are a rival of my Washington and Lee University I would want out of that one horse town as fast I got in! But to each their own. Glad the trip went well.

Glad you had an uneventful trip. Let us know when you will be back in ol’ Virginia and we’ll have to get together. We are about 120 ish miles north of Farmville but go south a lot in our GMC. Plus the Tidewater Crabs are a very active group that has monthly rallies in the VA/MD area.
Safe travels home.
