In 1996 I bought my GMC.
One night last week I received a phone call from the seller. It seems he
had, previous to my purchase, sold several GMC's in the province. Since '96
he has been in the diesel pusher re-sale business and had a number of boxes
of GMC parts he was getting rid of and was wondering if I still had mine
and if I wanted the boxes .
He arrived a couple of days later. A great guy and we talked mainly about
GMCs=good and Vogue=not so good.
Among the 5 large boxes of 'stuff' I went looking for a carb gasket for the
Onan tonight. I didn't find a carb gasket but one of the things I did find
find was 2 sets of front wheel bearings, new and in their boxes.
The spacers had .006 engraved on them. It has been a long time since I
thought about these and cannot remember... is .006 the conventional
thinking ??
Thanks in advance.

Mike,
I think the ones for a GMC should be marked 0.009, the 0.006 are for a Toronado???

IIRC wasn't the 0.006 the original dimension and later it was changed to the 0.009 dimension. I thought I heard that here so maybe someone can elaborate.

Sounds like Christmas in July for a GMC nut like you. Weren't you surprised that he remembered you after all these years? But then again, we bought our GMC in 1998 and the PO emailed me a few months ago wondering how we were doing with his former baby that he had owned for 18 years.

Thanks for the info...I thought there was something but wasn't sure what.
I hope I won't need to get start pulling things apart for a while .
I also thought that maybe I could use the spacers from my currently
installed set...perhaps Not!
I guess I'll worry about that when I have to deal with it...

Christmas in July..exactly!
I still have to find where dozens of seals go. They are in GM boxes with GM
numbers but an old interchange book (supplied) will let me track them down
when I get to it. There are other things that look like air pumps for the
rear suspension for 78's. I have a '77 so it will involve inspecting
another local guys 78.
I can tell you who will be going to the top of my Christmas card list !
