After looking at pictures of lots of dashboard improvements, I noticed that just about everyone still had the old climate controls even though the rest of the dash might be digital. What is the reason for that? Is there something special about this panel or controls that can't easily be replaced?

The main airbox uses mechanical doors driven either through vacuum "motors" and a cable for temperature control. I suppose someone could put a lot of effort into accomodating a newer style but it would be time consuming. Most newer heads are designed for electric actuators.

Robert,
I attended a seminar at a GMCMI Convention that Joe Eckl put on regarding using a later model vehicle climate control system and
panel. I listened carefully and decided the amount of work it took did not justify the rewards.
