[GMCnet] Rear Fantasic Fan install -- Wiring location? [message #256270]

I've heard the factory installed 12v and 110 wiring in rear ceiling wafers
even if an AC/Fan wasn't initially installed.

Hole is now cut in rear area of roof and ceiling panels for a new Fantastic
Fan. No wiring stub to be found there.

Edgemonte was the "defeatured" version from GMC iirc, so maybe such wiring
wasn't run to that rear fan area?

I'm ok with running a new positive wire down, and grounding the fantastic
fan to roof rails in that area if thats what it takes on our Edgemonte.
Just making sure I'm not missing the easier method.

Look around under the ceiling panels. Probably on the drivers side coming from the front.
GM did put a wire for that area and it should be in your 1976 Edgemont as well.

I just instilled a maxx turbo vent fan over the front vent. Wool there be
power there for that hatch as well?

The factory wire is in a flex conduit and runs in the roof spar, could be covered in foam.

Thanks for the help gents. No luck thus far finding wiring in the rear fan
area. Flexed the panels down and peeked around for a wire or flex conduit.
Couldn't see any runs definitively upward thru rails either.

I'll need to at least somewhat drop the ceiling panel tomorrow in order to
run a wire to the fuse panel in the bathroom. That should give a more
complete look at the situation and reveal any wires hidden from view.

Doubting that any fan type wiring was run at all on Edgemonte
models...front or rear. In checking the fuse assignments, I discovered that
the PO-installed front vent fan is fused to #4. No fans listed in the 12v
panel assignments.

Book says #4 fuse has Fridge 6.0A, Hall Light 2.88A, Right Front Light
2.88A, Total 11.76A. Pulled the fuse and those items went off (good) AND
the front vent fan went off too (hmmm...ok or bad). Adding the Fan's 1.9A
brings the total to 13.66A on the 15A fuse.

Fantastic did my install in bath and bedroom. Used a coat hanger and ran wires over to lighting wires on passenger side.

I removed my rear AC and replaced it with a Fantastic Fan. A satisfying upgrade. There were no 12ga wires there for the fan so I used the 10ga 120v house wiring for the 12v install. Way overkill but it works. My point here is that maybe you want to run some 10ga home wire up there in case at some time in the future you change your mind and want a roof AC in that spot. Just something to think about...

I found my wiring after a lot of hassle in the "wire gate" behind the rear left cabinet and partial behind the closet, you will have to take the cabinet out and the try to get the plastic cover/strip out, as I said a hassle, on mine they did also use strip ties that where impossible to reach with a plyer, had to heat up a screwdriver and melt them of.

I will check and see if I have a picture of it.

Yes, This was on DT, it had rear AC and a non power vent in the bathroom, both wires was at the same location behind the cabinet.

Wrap up. I ended up snaking a fish tape and splicing into the LH Rear Light
power wire. Easier than taking down cabinet, headliner, then snaking over
to bathroom. Grounded to a roof rail next to the FFan.

Added 4 wood blocks inside ceiling wafers, screwed in place with FF
mounting pattern, located on inner shroud's corners. Screwed the inner
plastic shroud insert to these 4 wood blocks so the headliner wouldn't sag
over time.
