Figured I would come inside on this blistering hot day and cool off a bit before I started my next project.

The holding tank in this coach must have shifted over the years cause when I went to reinstall the valve with the discharge pipe on it the discharge pipe was contacting the cross member and would not line up with the opening in the tank. I think this pressure on the pipe is what caused the tank to crack where it did.

So I went ahead and modified the cross member.

First photo shows the modified cross member, second photo shows the bracket to show how much material was removed, and the rest of the photos are self explanatory. The last photo shows the macerator, I have not wired it in yet, and have not finished mounting it as I need to get a piece of fiberglass flat stock from work.

Check your body pads. The tank is mounted to the floor, a body part. The body rests on the pads and those rest on the frame. Squished pads would lower the tank in relation to the frame. This is just what your pictures show.

Great, how do you replace those?

Also, the tank was shifted about 1/2 inch towards the passenger side of the coach, the discharge pipe clears the cross member brace on the bottom by about 1/4in. I Didn't have to modify the bottom of the brace, just the one side.

A few good guides for replacing the body pads. Basically the process
involves a bottle jack and 4x4, iirc.

Thanks John, Bdubs guide was all I really needed to see. Seems like it is time consuming if nothing else. Not extremely mechanical in nature as a lot of other GMC projects can be.

I will certainly consider doing this one day.

The passenger side took me most of a day. The driver's side took me less than 4 hours.

It appears that you may not have rotated the macerator head so that the pick up is at the lowest point -- can cause the pump to run dry and burn the impeller.

I appreciate the concern.

These are the macerators that we install in our boats, doesn't really mean much as far as the posting goes but I will tell you this...

When these are installed in the boat they are right around 3 1/2 feet above the holding tank. The great thing about this macerator is that it can be installed 5 feet above the tank and will still self prime even if it is dry.

The great thing about my installation is that the macerator is installed at the same height as the tank discharge so there is no head or priming involved and I have a valve installed in the discharge pipe right after the macerator so all waste will be sucked to the macerator.

The only reason I rotated the head is so the discharge (the small hose) was aimed towards the rear of the coach which is where the previous macerators discharge line was.

We state this in the owners manual for our boat.... (You will damage your macerator if it is allowed to run dry for more than 30 seconds. Listen to your macerator, when the contents of the holding tank have been discharged the macerator will have a higher pitch sound).

You have to listen to the pump to know when it is not pumping anything.
