Getting close to being on the road.

Holding tank has been repaired, will see how that holds.

New Thetford waste valve arrived today, still trying to figure out what makes them worth $50.

Bought my new Macerator a few days ago.

My Sealand Traveler 510 toilet needed a new ball valve and seal, got the parts and replaced those earlier in the week. 4 days and the toilet still has the same amount of water in it!!

Brakes and tires are done.

Got the braided oil lines from JRSlaten, have to pick up a few fittings though as they do not match what I currently have installed.

My Mobil 1 oil filters are in the mail and on the way, will be doing a Mobil 1 synthetic oil change.

My "Need to do list" now consists of:

Figure out the steering slop issue, think it may be the lower clamp that attaches to the steering box input..... will see.

Change the engine oil and filter.

Change the generator oil and filter.

Change or send out the fuel level sending units for repair. Not really a necessity yet.

Fittings for the oil cooler lines........

Think that is it as far as driveability....... for now.

The GMC.net forum does not have enough GB to store and display everything on the "Real" list.

I will say that after I am done with the "need to do list" the coach will be ready to use as it is. Everything works, just needs interior work that is more cosmetic than anything else. I hate particle board so I started bringing home the leftover Teak doorskins and Teak plywood from work. It is straight Teak though, not sure if I want to urethane it or go old school and oil it every now and then.

The head liner does have to be replaced........ haven't decided on vinyl or more of a carpet material (we refer to the carpet material as "Rat Fur" in the marine industry). I will be doing recessed round led light fixtures, all lights will be controlled from the new switch panel at the door which is not being utilized.

Seriously though, the list goes on and on. I imagine by the time I am done the interior will look like a 31' Ranger Tug, I can get all of the materials I need from work at cost + 10%.

And By The Way,

If anyone in the Cascaders GMC Group plans on visiting Beringer Berry Farm in Arlington this weekend, you will drive right by my coach. It is about 5-6 minutes from the Arlington Airport. The 160 acres of land that Beringers grows on is leased to them by my wifes parents.

I would love to have the opinion of anyone in the area about the play in the steering. As I stated before, the steering wheel can be moved back and forth 3-4 inches, the shaft going into the box moves the same but the pitman arm does not move at all.

Had a very productive morning that was hampered by an unforeseen mistake. Live and learn I guess.

Note to self....... the discharge pipe goes on the waste valve BEFORE the waste valve gets bolted to the tank. After I installed the valve I filled the tank to check for leaks. I reversed the discharge head on the Macerator so it would install in the same configuration as the one that was removed. Got everything cleaned up, crawled under the coach to reinstall everything and......... the discharge pipe wont slip on the valve because the frame cross member is in the way. Drained the 30 gallons out of the tank and moved on to my next project while I waited for the ground to dry....

Next project. I got my new braided lines from JRSlaten installed!!! Funny thing is that the lines I removed were flexible lines from the adapter all the way to the radiator. They were also custom made because the engine still had the 455 adapter. I went to Napa and bought a pair of 3/4 npt to JIC adapters, and used a right angle die grinder to remove the raised portion of aluminum on the adapter so I was able to clock the adapter to match the 403 configuration.

Will hopefully get back to the waste system tomorrow. On a good note, the tank didn't leak anymore.

Jared

edit... Just walked outside and my Mobil 1 oil filters I bought on Amazon showed up. Looks like a trip to Wal-Mart tonight. I will knock out the oil change tomorrow!!!

Jared,

I'm writing with reference to your post about progress on your MH located in Arlington, WA. I have already written the message before remembering that I should have quoted your original message. You mentioned that the new oil cooler hoses have been installed, Mobil 1 filters have arrived and you are ready to change the oil, after finishing the black tank boogie.

Congratulations on the progress. It is really amazing what an efficient person can do for a GMC in a short amount of time. My GMC lacks such a person unless you count the better half, who is.

Look back on the forum and look for a certain helpful fellow from Ozy who posted a complete blow by blow description as to how to check and isolate steering issues. Didn't we have some long discussion about tightening the play out using the screw with a jam nut on the plate of the steering box lately? Bob DeKruyff has some insight, and there is always the Army way, involving removing the box and setting preload on the bench and getting it back in perfectly. I think if it's ready to go tomorrow except for steering that you take it over to the Cascaders camp and visit asking for steering expertise. Some of those guys would take one look and tell your fortune. Save some time.

Best,

Carey from Ennis, Texas 78 Royale, 500 Cadillac, Rance Baxter EFI.

I am heading over to the Cascaders Camp here in about 45 minutes. Sadly the coach is still up on jackstands and will not be going with me. Tina is at work and I have a flight from 5 to 7 tonight so Alina won't be with me either.

Me and Tina talked about driving her over there tomorrow but most Cascaders are taking off after 9am.

I am going to go back through the steering troubleshooting guide you provided. Will have to wait for the coach to be back on the ground before we can check everything properly.

Thanks, Jared

Hey Jared, sounds like you have been making more progress than I am...lol..I just got back from the POs and he had some more parts for me that he had found..lol..I did get some bamboo flooring on clearance for the kitchen, hall and back room. I also got some carpet on clearance for the front half of the coach so once I get to those items in the future I am ready to go. Been too hot here to do too much outdoors except cool off in the pool so progress has slowed. But supposed to cool off next week so I can get busy. I'm planning on doing the fuel lines and the brakes then. I think I will replace the brake cylinders and check the rear brake shoes and also look at the front discs prior to replacing the brake fluid with the synthetic I got. They had the Dot 3 here ... At least the valve for the macerator was a Valterra. That was cheap comparatively speaking.

Yeah the heat has been worse than what could be considered "Normal" for the PNW.

Luckily I get up early and try to get done what I can before the sun is high in the sky.

It was a warm one today though. Even at 3200 feet MSL the air temperature was 75 degrees. We had all of the vents in the plane open and it was like sitting in a convection oven. Great flight though, had a new CFI who was putting me through the paces to see what I know.

Keep it up Glenn!!
