I traveled to the Denver CO area from Philly this past weekend. My coach developed a serious problem with the steering. Theres much more play now when I turn the wheel, the coach is barely under control now . It wanders very dangerously and when I go to correct theres so much more play in the steering wheel I can turn the wheel almost 270 degrees before it 'catches' I would like to know if anyone has a recommendation for a GMC mechanical expert located in the Denver area who can take a look and address the issue. Feel free to call me 215-740-3665
Also - any comments regarding abnormally loose steering would be most appreciated. Thank you.

I'd def park it until you get the issue resolved. I'm in the Colo Springs area and could give a hand on an evening if needed.
I'd start by making sure the mounting bolts for everything in the steering system from the steering wheel to the lug nuts are tight. Then jack up each front wheel independently and check for play.

OMG I checked the steering box bolts and they are all loose ! So loose they came out almost a half inch. My god. How could this happen?! I'll need to get the coach level and jack up the front end to check for wheel play then tighten those bolts. Thanks you guys !!!

You do not need to jack the coach to tighten those bolts. They wii pull the gear box back into position. Just block under the frame for safety. Then get it to a mechanic to make sure the bolts, frame holes and threaded holes in the box have not been damaged. Note the steering gear box is somewhat unique to the GMC so if it needs to be replaced ASAP keep the original, do not let them retain it for a core. or for a replacement you can have Applied GMC overnight one to you. Keep us in touch.

I am very lucky indeed. That was almost traumatic driving the coach that way. It was so bad two of the bolts had unscrewed over half and inch ! They were on their way to falling out, for certain. I knew something was very wrong driving across kansas yesterday on I-70 . Drifting over the center line , onto the shoulder, geez.
Thanks again all who responded and to Bruce for giving me a call. I'm back up now, took a test drive, steering is back tight.

Paul, happy to hear you got it back on the road safely. Although we are nearly neighbors, it was not me trying to steal your steering box. I drive past Landale every morning on the PA Turnpike.

Make that 101 owners. I know mine are tight. I have little play in the steering. I'm gonna bail under it tonight anyway... belt and suspenders.
