Subject: [GMCnet] Door lock cylinder for '74 coach
To: gmclist@temp.gmcnet.org
I brought my bad cylinder to the local Kenworth dealer, and they had the
new ones in stock. It is just like the old one, except that I had to
grind some of the flanges off each side where the slide-clip holds the
cylinder to the door. The newer ones use a big snap ring that did not
look like it could be used on the GMC. (Unless there is another Kenworth
part that truly fits as is.) The part number for a set of two cylinders
is 30GN15. They are not $22 or $30 for a set anymore, though; I paid
just over $60 for the pair. (Some of that may be the normal
"California/Bay Area tax", though.)

Pull your glovebox cylinder and have a locksmith re-create a key--it will work in your door.

Maybe. My door key does not unlock the glove box. I don't know if this is a 73-74 vs 75+ thing or something that happened over the last 40 years. It's certainly worth a try, but not a "for sure" thing.
