Hi all. Was wondering how the wheel well T's attach at the bottom to keep them secure? Am thinking about making some maybe a friend of mine that does AC ductwork would fashion me some out of sheetmetal and then I'd paint them. I haven't seen how they attach from the rear..I see the top attaches with bolts into the body. Any measurements of the Ts would also be of great help. The main thing I'm thinking of is protecting the air bags from the elements. Thanks, Glenn

Glenn, they attach to a piece of rubber (1/4" thick or so) which in turns bolts to the bogie mount in the center. There is a 5/16 or 3/8" bolt hole.

Applied GMC sells new Fiberglas ones. I've made some aluminum ones before for clearance for larger tires. It's not that hard but he'll have to tip the edge flanges and shrink them in order to get the correct curve.

Go to Applied GMC site and look for a picture of the device that bolts to the "T" and to the rear suspension. You may be able to copy it or just buy a pair.

Hi Kerry, thanks for the info on the Ts, I figured they had to attach to the bogie somehow..and I guess the rubber is to allow for movement. Do you attach the end at the bogie first and then the top of the T to the body panel? Anyone with pictures of the back side of the T and maybe one of it mounted? Thanks, Glenn

Glen, When I changed to the 4 bag system, I had to attach the bottom a little different. I picked up some about 1/4 inch thick rubber belting (for free), and cut T-shaped tongues to hold the bottom in place. Very easy to do. I think that you could also use an old piece of mud flap. The big trucks leave enough on the highway.

Lol..about the truckers...I guess that would save from having to dumpster dive for a piece of rubber...lol..I will look for some Ts but if I can't find any reasonable then I know my buddy and I should be able to fabricate something. My GMC never had the Ts as there are no mounting holes in the body panel above the bogies. I think they were a nice addition to these rigs and should protect the air ride system a bit. If we do make these I will make an extra in case I lose or damage one sometime..lol.. something else to store and try and find at a later date...lol Glenn

A engineer on the GMC design team told me that they referred to a wheel well T as a bucktooth.

Mine have a little metal strap instead of rubber. Same idea. Mine are the t-skirts that extend all the way around the tires, not just over the bags. Aftermarket from somewhere.
