Hi Sergio,

We have two GMC coaches, one a 78 Royale with the large U shaped lounge in back so the following may be helpful for you.

1) 8-10 no matter what you do. I strongly suggest adding an ethanol conditioner at each fill up. I have used several different brands with good success but like Archoil the best. We have virtually eliminated vapor lock as an issue since we started using these.

2) Lots of things effect wander on the road. Start by setting ride height correctly at both rear and front. Rear is easy (pressure in the air bag and adjust the height control arms to maintain that pressure/height) but adjusting the front requires a special torsion bar unloading tool. Do not try to change front ride height without this tool and the knowledge to use it safely. Download a full set of instructions on alignment from my web site http://jerrywork.com. Then put 65 psi in the front tires and 60 psi in the four rear tires. Make sure they are fabric sidewall, not steel sidewall which some say exacerbates the wander issue. Now see if the wander is reduced. If not, move to checking all the front end components, especially the A arm bushings. Rob Mueller has a great writeup on how to do this available off of the GMCWS.org web site. If/when everything is tight, then properly align the coach following the instructions in my writeup.

4) You have a broken or malfunctioning check valve. I suggest eliminating the city water hook up and just use the tank/pump. That way if you break a line while you are away from your coach you will not come back to a flood.

5) Tanks are shallow and flat so to dump you need to lower the rear end. Best option is to get rid of all that sewer pipe under the rear bath in a Royale and put in a macerator. Lots of instructions on line at the various GMC club sites on how to do this. A cracked tank is hard to repair successfully. Most common stuff will not stick to the material from which the tanks were formed. You can buy a repair kit from some RV parts places that may work, but replacement is the only real cure.

9) On a Royale the propane tank is located under the rearward dinette seat. There is an access door just forward of the coach entry door.

10) Other questions and searches for parts, etc. can best be directed to Jim K at Applied GMC (SF Bay area) or Jim B at GMC Coop (Orlando, FL), both of whom carry a full stock of parts and really know their stuff about GMCs.

Enjoy, join a local GMC club where you will get all the support in the world, and attend rallies. We find the FMCA regional and national rallies also very helpful in seeing what is new in the RV world.

Good Morning all.

I am the new owner of a 78 Royale. Took it out for the 1st time last weekend on a short trip up the coast in preparation for longer and more distant adventures. Here are my questions.

1. Driving the coach on the freeway: traveled around 55 to 65 MPH- what kind of MPG should I expect at those speeds.?

2. Also noticed the rear end of the coach kind of wandering and me having to make constant corrections to the steering wheel. Not excessive, but noticeable. Should I look at my air bags, steering box, should I install rear sway bars....................?

3. What's the correct tire pressure

4. When I operate my water pump it sprays water out of the city water fill inlet...that can't be right. Pump works fine otherwise

5. I did not get much "stuff out of the black water tank when flushing with a jet flush thing(I am new to RV's) is there a best way to empty both holding tanks?

6. Speaking of tanks...I have a crack in my grey water tank at the outlet to the discharge valve-what is a good way to repair the crack without replacing the tank?

7. The 2 switches at the door entrance inside the cabin- what are these for? If I use one, it dims the lights and apparently, trips the breaker at the hook- up site. This is certainly not right.

8. I have a newer dometic fridge...It works but at times gives me E3 and E4 error codes. I turn it off and on and then it works fine-(for a while.)

9. Also, I am still looking for the LP Gas access cover hatch.

10. Any tips on how to use, prepare and avoid problems is also welcomed

There will be more questions but this should be good for now. I appreciate any input as I am a first time owner of this magnificent piece of Americana....Always wanted a GMC and now I have one!

Thank you all in advance.

Not all Royale's. Ours is a Center Kitchen, and the tank is in the rear on the passenger side like the Onan is on the driver's side.
