Refuses to light, suspect the ignition board. The solenoid that allows gas
to the burner keeps cycling on and off. We repaired the cooling unit about
three years ago using Jim K's patented beat the coils to death with a stick
method. Thinking spending $150 plus bucks on a 25 year old unit is insane.

Suggestions?

Cheers,

Sounds like Jim was a bit high but 3 years for 150 isn't bad !

Agreed, but if the fridge worked fine up to this point it might be worth it to replace the board, depending on your budget. If the budget allows it, you won't regret biting the bullet and replacing it with a new one. We LOVE our Noecold 641.3 - 3 way fridge. It was a bit pricey, but for our use it was well worth the money, work, and time to install it.

If it works on electric but not propane I would clean the pilot orfice and if that was ok I would check and replace the thermocouple if it did not produce the required milivolts I believe it should be 25 milivolts but not sure.

Id have to look at the specific unit, but if this is an electronicly controlled unit it wont have a pilot or a thermocouple, it would me a thermister.
If you obsereve it, does it try to light and go out?
If not at all, try jumping off the valve with a lighter over the burner [confirms the valve is good]
if it stay lit for a second and goes out, is the thermister in the flame? {if it doesnt detect flame it shuts off valve]
is there soot at the burner? [too rich or wrong LP pressure]
If it does light is it blue or yellow? [air mix or blocked orifice]
If yellow check your orifice, and make sure the flue is clear. A spider or other blockage will not let it draft and it might go out.
Is it sparking at the burner or at least hear a ticking sound from the board?
If it is the board [and I think there is a tester now that will tell you that] you may find a rebuilt board. There were years ago anyway.
Hope this helps, mind you Im relying on 25yr + memories...

Chris is correct this unit has a burner orfice and flame rod or senser rather then the pilot orfice and thermocouple. Google norcold model 8663 and you can read up on your unit they even have a service manual and trouble shooting section

Yeah, the 641.3 is great. I only used it once, before my coach died, and It's sitting in my warehouse while I try to decide to swap it out for the dometic 2way that is in my trailer. The Norcold seemed to work better, and was 3 way to boot, so no need to run the gas while driving.

The panels are the gating factor. The height is the same on both doors, but the norcold has narrower plastic sides, I think I can mount the panels to a piece of luann plywood to bridge the gap, but it is 1/2" on each side, so it may look funny.

Either way, my Norcold 641.3 or my 2009 Dometic 2 way will be for sale in the next few weeks. The Compressor fridge is back in the coach...

The shutoff valve cycles on and off which leads me to believe it is the
ignition module. I'll bypass the module and hotwire the valve open and see
what happens. I may as well clean the burner and polish the igniters.
Right now I'm not getting anything when I turn it on.

I did fine a good replacement, an ATWOOD REFRIGERATOR MODEL: HE-0601, helium
type for $855 with the panels, plus shipping brand new in the box.

I'll play with it this weekend before I get a replacement.

Cheers,
