Left early Sunday morning from Flying J on I-80 in North Platte, Nebraska. Checked into the Winnemucca RV Park in Winnemucca, Nevada before sundown. Bought a lot of gas in 4 different states. Longest single day solo(except for my dog Spot) trip in my experience.

Nebraska provided more bugs on the windshield than all the other states combined.

Nothing unusual to report. Now have 9000 miles on my new MGMGMC 455 and Manny Tranny. Everything is working as expected including the (Ken Burton are you listening?) alternator. Previous Alt issues turned out to be self inflicted wounds. A topic for a future post.

Hoping to be a contender for Robin Hood's Million Dollar Prize for the most miles in a GMC in 2014.

Noticed that the highways in the 4 states I crossed yesterday and all the others I traveled in the past week were in much better condition than the interstates in California, the state with the highest tax on gas in the nation.

Ken Burton is listening but I do not remember anything about the alternator.
What is that about?
What did I forget?

Averaging 60 mph means probably maintaining 70 or so between fuel stops. Sunset in NV was around 8:00 pm. It would take about 17 hours averaging 60 mph to travel a thousand miles. So departure must have been around 3:00 AM.

I had spent the night of my 71st birthday at the Flying J and woke up between 3:30 and 4:00. Went in to the Denny's had breakfast and used their wifi. Actually hit the road at 5:00. I checked.

Speed limits are 75 most of the way 80 for parts of Nevada. My speed was mostly between 70 and 75. It was just me and my dog so no extended stops. Just gas and walk the dog. Never got hungry so didn't stop for lunch- had dinner in the coach at the camp site. Was in Winnemucca by 8:00 the sun was still up. Took a while to find the RV Park but the sun was still up when I hooked up in my site.

Don't forget the 2 hours gained through time zone changes.

The Rockies on I-80 are nothing to the GMC the mountains are old and worn down. Didn't have real hills until Nevada. The Sierra Nevadas are much younger mountains and the grades are steeper and more numerous. I hit those today after passing Reno.

I didn't set out to do that drive in one day. I just felt good never got tired so no reason to stop; enjoyed the beautiful scenery and kept moving.

"From here on up it's downhill all the way" Pogo Possum.

I will check my gas receipts and actual distance traveled tomorrow.

...enjoyed the beautiful scenery and kept moving.

Is it just me, or does scenery look even more spectacular through the windshield of a GMC than it does standing outside with nothing in between you? I'm not sure why this is other than maybe the framing of the "picture" - but it's MUCH different than the same scenery through a car windshield for some reason.

You may be onto something there Mark. I once drove a '78 Dodge Class-c down the West Coast and couldn't see anything past the bed overhang over the cab. Not a good way to enjoy a drive through a Redwood forest. The GMC would be much more enjoyable.
