This ad contains almost no detailed information about the actual vehicle. Nothing about how it runs or drives, whether the appliances work, etc. just a bunch of generic copy and paste historical information. Yet it has been bid up to over $22,000 and the reserve hasn't even been met?

Personally I find that hard to believe. Anyone know this coach and what the story is?

Well, it is a rare "palm beach edtion"

single photo. Hmmm.

If the ad is legit, and the photo recent, the single photo does speak volumes.

But the pessimist in me is suspicious.

I would think someone here would know it. How many "mint" Palm Beaches are there?

Be nice to be able to see if the picture was original or has been used elsewhere on the web.

I'm wondering if more pics have been added since there are a lot of them and they appear to be current. The TZE number and the FMCA number should let it be traced.

There are in fact 27 photos. Just scroll down the ad a bit. Exterior, interior, mileage (odometer), and build sheet.

Looks legit to me. They seem to be a auto broker of some kind with a good rep.

Still too rich for my blood, but it does seem to be in great shape. Wonder what the reserve is though??

My mistake, I see the rest of the photos are in the body of the ad.

Looks pretty good.

There are 12 bids but only 2 bidders. Makes me wonder if the guy uses aliases to bid up his own auctions and stir up interest. No loss to him as long as he stays below the reserve he set, if it doesn't sell he just lists it again with a lower reserve. I really can't see someone bidding $22K for something like this with only internet pictures to go by. No mention of the generator, when it was last serviced, how it drives, nothing.

Lots easier to see when listing is reduced to:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/201098685456

It looks pretty legitimate to me!

It's listed by Lash Auto Sales in Lakeland, FL. (www.lashauto.com)

A legitimate dealer would have to be pretty sure of the mileage to claim it!

Up through 2010 that TZE was owned by Don & Nancy Figurella of Canton, Ohio.

That's who it is registered to in the Registry. Also, the FMCA oval plaque verifies that the owners are/were Figurella. Now the coach may be on consignment for a sale, or it has been sold to the current selling company. Nothing else in the Registry on the coach.

A nice original GMC MH like this would be ideal to have donated to the RV Museum in Elkhart, IN. (hint hint)

While my name appears in the middle of the Ebay ad text, I have nothing to do with this coach. Much of the descriptive text and pictures appear to be mine, but they should have deleted my name.

Must have been an exceptional coach as it didn't meet the reserve at $24,500 ?

I'll just translate the ad for you:

"All original:" You will have to replace, or service, every component of the vehicle sooner than you think.

Believe it or not there is a well worn 76 Eleganza for sale for $25,000 at a consignment shop a short distance from me. It appears to be mostly original with a few upgrades . The paint is original except for the paint over the striping ugh. Not likely he will get any offers.

Or, because the current seller knows nothing about the coach except the mileage, its shiny paint, and what he could cut and paste from the internet? No pics of the engine or undercarriage, no receipts, no description of whether any of the interior systems work. Just the "ain't she a beaut" pics and a lot of disclaimers.

It may be worth every penny, and may yet find a buyer. However, it will have to be a cash buyer, and cash buyers north of 25k are getting harder to come by in this economy. Just saying.

I sent a message to the guy last week. Below is the string. My guess is the reserve was 25k and it got bid up by a couple of friends of his. Pretty common practice.

I see it was relisted. I'll bet it gets no bids now- unless he gets his buddies to bid it up close to the reserve again. It looks like he sells quite a few classics. I guess he may think there are collectors who buy them as investments like other classic cars. His response offered no answers to my questions. Anybody want to go take a look?

Dear clklook,

sir hang on this couch has been inspected and serviced by the best it is as close to new as anyone anywhere .this coach is right needing nothing we just drove it on 1100 mile trip nothing no issues what so ever it was owned by people bill miller who owns carlisel production and car show

Dear classicsbylash,

I see no information about upgrades or the working/driving condition of the coach. It looks good in the pictures but if the drive train is original it is really not worth half of the current price. 40 years takes it toll on all of the bushing and body mounts, boots, bearings etc. no mater how well you maintain the living area. Would you have any records of who maintained the coach and what has been done over the years to keep it running? There are some great gmc motorhome repair facilities in FL and some not so good ones. Additional photos of the engine, front end components and frame would be good to start.
This looks like a good one, but I question the lack of coach specific info. Please let me know what else you can tell me before I send someone out to take a look.

Thanks, I look forward to hearing from you...

That response by the seller reminds me of the exchange at the end of "Raiders of the lost Ark"

"we have top people working on it."

"Who?"

"Top...People..."

Not a clue.
