Its a slow night, so maybe a little thread hijacking is in order.
Looking at the Cad 500 got me thinking about what would be the appropriate final drive.
The amount of air/fuel mixture expended per mile would be about the same for the following engine displacement/final drive ratios:

Oldsmobile
350 4.11 (a Manny power drive with a 3.70 ratio would be a bit closer to the rest of the list)
403 3.70
455 3.42
Cadillac
425 3.55
472 3.21
500 3.07

Paid $700 for a '73 out of an Eldorado with the right mounts complete with ac and all accessory mounts , carb and a spare trany and diff. I thought that was a little high. I'm sure it would have sounded fine running, glad I tore It down. Just little things.

Bill, I bought my 75 500 from the same guy you bought yours from. Paid $300. complete. As it turns out you were only 100 yards away from where I store the 29.5. I also live 4 blocks from there.

Bill,

What are you going with on the valve train of the 500? Stock or aftermarket, pedestal or shaft? Aluminum or steel rockers?

Are you going to change out the camshaft? Increase compression ratio? What little things did you find? I think your advice is very helpful and thanks for your willingness to share. I am looking for Ferrea valves due to your suggestion.

Thanks,

Carey
