For those of you who don't know, as the guy responsible for sending get well cards to Cascader members, Dwayne Jacobson just had the occasion to send one to himself! Seems just before leaving White Rock, BC, for the Route 66 Rally he fell and badly hurt his leg. Thinking it was something like a bad sprain they drove down toPortland for the rally with the intent of heading east from there. Once at the rally it was obvious that it was more serious than a sprain and he went to have it examined. The diagnosis came back that he had fractured his hip and would require surgery to have repairs.

A bitter disappointment obviously after all the months of planning and preparation, but there was no choice but to have their kids come down and take him back to BC where screws and a plate were implanted yesterday. They hope for a speedy enough recovery that they might still be able to dash across country at some point to join the group.

On another sad note, Cascader Carol Winchester (Dan's wife) is on her way to Boston for treatment of a rare form of cancer of the lining of the lung. Only a few reported cases a year and the Center in Boston where they are headed is considered one of the best in the world. We wish her God's speed for a full recovery.

He posted the incident over on Face Book. Sounds like he has plans to catch up with the rest of the group. Hope he can do it.

Well, he's sure a spry one! I've had 3 emails from him this morning, after
asking about the European river boat tour next year, before learning of his
accident.

What a bummer. I got an email from him today too. I can't imagine his disappointment. He'd been planning this trip for well over a year as he told me about it last summer when he stopped by. I hope he can catch the parade somewhere along the road but I expect if his wife is anything like mine, he won't be doing any motor home driving until he is fully healed.

Route 66 mid day update. All the way through Idaho. Presently in a rest
stop for lunch. 4 coaches strong today. Hupy' s, Barrow's, Guttman's, &
McClendan's. One Canadian, One Oregonian, 2 Californian's. We will meet up
with the Paradis's and their Aussie friends, Graham and Diane Parmenter,
and the Boyd's, Terry and Joann this evening at Three Forks, Montana. Some
4800 feet hills this morning, no preblemo for the coaches. Intermittent
rain squalls, but warm. 63 degrees or so. Great traveling weather. Took a
couple of pix today. When I have Internet tonight, I will try to forward
them to my crippled friend Dwayne. Maybe he can post them for all of you.
More later.

Dwayne,

I am sorry to read Jerry's email below, I know you put a HELL of a lot of work and planning into the Route 66 Rolling Rally; this
injury well and truly SUCKS! I hope that you heal fast enough to rejoin the group for part of the trip.

I wish Carol all the best as well!

Regards,
Rob M.

Route 66 Rolling Rally Update, 10:05 PM Mountain time. Presently located at
Three Forks Campground, a mile S of Interstate 90, at the Junction of 287.
6 coaches present. Two are heading for Yellowstone Park tomorrow, and 4 are
headed to Buffalo, Wyoming. Coaches all running well. Crossed the
Continental Divide today, 6393 foot elevation according to the sign at the
summit. Traffic very light. Strong tailwinds helped us all with fuel
economy today, but some strong crosswind gusts increased the "pucker
factor" a bit. Departure tomorrow around 9:00 AM. Cool Mountain air makes
these coaches run like scalded dogs.

I hope Dwayne bounces back quickly. He sounds like he will. Very concerned about Carol Winchester, too, adding her to my list of concerns. Dan has given me lots of hope and super ideas on his motorhome. Check out Dan's GMC Pages. How about a keyless entry? Does he have the slickest macerator setup in creation for a Royale? Aircraft honeycomb-type construction for cabinet sides. Their coach is light.

Now, nothing is important but Carol's recovery and healthful restoration to the family, not forgetting concerns about Dwayne.

We sure are getting some rough news on the forum. It's time for some hope. I am thankful for all the health and blessings received by the majority of our members, especially on this day of remembrance. My wife asked today why the preacher said "Freedom isn't free". Her English understanding is proceeding, but she didn't follow his meaning. It was my privilege to explain that our freedoms were bought and paid for by people who sacrificed for us, the vast majority of whom we never knew. She was uplifted by this idea and it was so good to have a new citizen of these United States gain a deeper appreciation of this country.

Have a happy Memorial Day, what's left of it.

Well said. My brief encounter is nothing compared to what Carol faces
Holding fast to your confession of faith has great reward.
Best regards as you remember those who brought freedom.

Our prayers are with the entire group for good recovery and safe travels. Please keep us posted as you can. I love to hear and see photos of those out using their gmc coaches. It appeared many were out over this past weekend by all of the photos posted.
