I have had success in getting both Safari (iPad) and Chrome (MAC) to let me log in. Or should I say, start letting me start logging in again.

Clearing cookies seems to let the login routine on Birdfeeder.net begin to work again.

In the thread, Dan Gregg can't log in, bottom of the first page, is a set of instructions that worked for Chrome. (cookies sre not in a handy spot in Chrome)

Two other GMC users also had success so I am posting this separately and this has been frustrating many of us.

My theory is that one of the 8 cookies Chrome had stored for Birdfeeder is incompatible with the new forum programming. Good luck to all.

I also noticed that the red color for not read and blue for read is working again.

George, is your default view set to "flat view" or "tree view"?

I think he is seeing the red and blue again in the topic view because he is now logged in.

Mine, like yours also still fails. I'm just vocal. I'm not complaining, but rather trying to find out where the problem is so it can be fixed.

We two are not the only ones with failures. I have had notes from three other people and Matt has also posted here that he same problem. I cleared cookies on all of my machines and browsers and that did not help. The history for read and unread is not stored locally in your cookies.

>one of the 8 cookies

Though I was already able to get the ipad to work with Chrome and Safari, I hand-nuked the webkit cookies and now I'm in on that as well.

My icon colors seem to be ok, too.

Being vocal is OK. That is the only way to figure out what is going on. I agree that there have been two separate problems. The login problem may now be either fixed or not bothering me after I deleted cookies from the gmc.bird... yet again. I think the process that may fix it is to logoff the forum, clear the cookies from the forum, and then log back on. For me that changed the number of cookies and it now seems to be less confusing although my name comes and goes from the list of logged in users without me ever logging in or out again.

For now I am handling the second problem - tree view not updating posts as read - by manually clicking on "flat view" before leaving a thread. By the way, this is a repeat of a problem on FudForum that happened in 2006. Apparently most people don't use tree view - maybe that is because they are email oriented because that is where forums started - so no too many people are making noise about it?

I saw that 2006 entry and wondered about it. But as old as it is I assumed they fixed it. I think it had something to do with Java.

I have been wondering if maybe Java or some other client-side scripting had anything to do with the "tree view" problem. Nothing I can find tells how FudForum does its thing in this area.
