We just got our new Jabsco macerator installed and test fired it for a few seconds. We first dumped a few gallons of water into the black tank. Boy, are they supposed to be that loud? Seemed to be louder than a garbage disposal although I was down under holding a bucket to catch the output so I was pretty close to the unit. We just want to make sure we haven't screwed something up. Thanks all!

Mickey,
The higher noise is because you are hearing the pump impeller and because it is not totally covered with liquid. With a full tank the noise will be less as the pump is pumping liquid with the impeller covered and when it gets near empty it may get a little louder. The only way to go and we have had macerators in our coaches since 2000. I also use a 1” hose assembly for pump out. I will try to get pictures of my layout today when I go out in the shop.
The macerator will run when dry, but you should not run it for long. Unlikely that you have hurt the pump.

Wally & JR. Thanks for the response. We read quite a bit on this forum about the installation and so forth of macerators. We've never heard one run, fully tank or empty so we just wanted to make sure. We're pretty happy with the installation and will post pictures when we're completely done. We have a 20 foot 1 inch hose that we will be connecting to the macerator. Thanks again.

Rob, Yes we are aware of the macerator inlet having to be down. We made a bracket that bolts to the cross frame and the macerator cushioned feet sit on that so the feet are under the macerator so we didn't have to rotate the inlet. We used fine braided 10 gauge wire like a lot of people suggested and we put the control switch in the exterior electric compartment. We are drawing power from the interior electric closet terminal that feeds the fuse panel and the ground goes to the aluminum ground post behind the electric panel. So far so good although we haven't christened the new black tank yet. We'll be posting pictures as soon as we get some extra time.
