Does anyone know of an insurance company that will insure our motorhomes as classic vehicles in Michigan? Hagerty said no and Progressive charges near normal car rates of $1,000+/year.
thanks

Todd,
As Kevin in Chicago just found out (unfortunately), there are some problems with insuring our coaches. What you really want is an "Agreed Value" policy. These policies cost a lot more, but my coach (no Concours candidate)is insured for near 30k. I though Jim was crazy until he explained that they have to appraise it at its cost to replace. Remember the line - "A decent, travel ready and reliable coach will be 25K - all at once or as a kit."
My cars are all with Safeco, but when I asked last they declined to write and agreed value for the coach. I haven't asked in more than a year. I also know that most companies that insure classic and custom cars will not insure RVs. The reasoning for this has escaped me.
I do know that both Allied (a small branch of Nationwide) and The Miller Insurance Group will write such policies.
You will probably need a real appraisal for an agreed value policy. That is a good reason to plan to go to Chippawa Falls and meet with JimK.

I am in agreement with Matt.
I pay over $1,000/year for "Agreed Value" insurance through National Interstate and maybe that is too high. Currently the "Agreed Value" is $56,000 which I would be paid in the event the GMC was totaled. I know that I could never sell it for that, but it would cost me at least that much replace my GMC the way it is now. The policy also includes towing with Coach-net.
I've been upgrading my GMC for the last 16 years to make it mine. I shudder to think of what would happen if it was totaled and the insurance company only paid me "blue book" (whatever that would be) and I had to start all over again mostly on my dime to get a replacement setup the the way I want it. Some think that our labor is "free" and maybe it is. I just don't have the time (not getting any younger) and ambition (I'm running out of that too) to do it all over again. So you can get cheaper, non "Agreed Value" and take your chances or get "Agreed Value" and at least know that you would be compensated for your sweat equity in case of loss. At least that is the way I look at it.
Our new '78 Super Beetle convertible also has "Agreed Value" insurance through Hagerty. We're going to tow it behind our GMC.

I have contact Safeco, Nationwide and Miller. I'll keep you posted
I used AAA for years in Michigan with agreed value for about $80 per month. In AZ I now have Progressive agreed value for about $ 87 per month.

Broham wrote on Tue, 20 May 2014 10:13i still think the Dodge Promax would be a great fit. FWD V6 diesel with 10,000 GVW + 5,000 towing. that means the drivetrain with pull 15,000 lbs, right? I can't wait until they start showing up in the junk yards and I can get a better look at them.

There's a bit of apples and oranges in those ratings. The vehicle GVW is entirely supported by the chassis while the trailering capacity adds about 500 to 750 pounds of weight to the chassis. As far as the driveline, yes it will be pulling 15000 ponds. You should be able to find cutaways sitting at a Ram dealer that also sells commercial vehicles.
