I may be blind, but I looked through the GMCMI parts interchange but could not find parts info for my Onan 6.0 genset.

I have the Wix number for the oil filter, but not for the air filter. Onan wants $31.96 for the thing and would have to order from the warehouse which would add another $22.00! OUCH!

I'm pretty sure that a substitute filter exists, but would like some advice, please.

T.I.A.

BTW, the gasket to mount the oil filter adapter to the engine has a new Onan part number of 122-0771 (replaces 122-0321) and local dealer has four at $6.80 each plus sales tax.

The 309-0237 Low Oil Pressure switch is available at $26.56.

Hopefully, my oil leak resides totally in this area!

The GMCMI Parts Interchange is laid out the same as the GM Parts Manual.
The Onan is found under Furnishings. Look for Furnishings - Generator.
There is a large section on Onan parts. For Oil Filters there are 36 entries.

If you need help let me know. But tell me if you have a 6000 watt or a 4000 watt.

A few years ago I bought a Purolator A22011 (crosses to a Wix 46270). The air filter is the same diameter but a different length so I used a piece of allthread (1/4, 5/16, I'm not sure) to replace the existing Onan mounting rod. The Purolator air filter also has a plastic 'sleeve' around half of it that I removed, just to make it look more like the original Onan filter.

Math: the Purolator air filter was about $15 plus the couple of dollars for the allthread equals a lot less than Onan wants for their air filter.

I did this in about 2007 or 2008 and haven't looked at it since, that's why I can't remember the diameter or length of the allthread I used. At least I kept the part number of the Purolator filter box in my collection of receipts.

edit: added the word 'air' a few times to clarify that this is for the air filter, which is what I assume you're looking for.

Mac,

Yep, you need to visit the Optometrist!

See GMCMI Parts Interchange Index / Spring 2013 / Page 20 / Furnishings - Generator / Onan, Air Filter, 6000 Watt

There's seven listed there! ;-)

Well, Rob, I guess I do, but I see multiple images at night with my right eye and I lost central vision in my left eye a year ago with what amounts to a stroke in the eye itself.

However, who in hell would have thought to look for the generator under "FURNISHINGS?" Obviously it was not in MY thought processes!

I looked in 2013, 2012, and 2011 and missed in all three. I would have expected GENERATOR to follow FUEL!

I got the Wix oil filter at O'Reilly's yesterday. Will head for the ONAN place for the oil filter adaptor bracket gasket tomorrow and probably NAPA for the air filter. A few folks have said that Wix makes filters for NAPA, but Wix does not have an equivalent.

Thanks and sorry for the ever more frequent C.R.S.

Mac,

You will need two of the oil filter adapter gaskets, one for each side of the engine mounting plate that is sandwiched between the block and the adapter. One of the nuts on the adapter is hard to get at. A 1/2" distributor wrench will make it easy.
