Does anyone know the specs on the large bolt that holds the very top of the fender wells in? I have managed to misplace both of mine.

Also maybe if someone has some extras, that could be helpful. But im fine with knowing the specs of the bolt such as size and thread, and using a large washer.

I have found that 1/4 inch hex head lag bolts work fine. About 1-1/2" long

To make my wells easier to put back in I used the bolt arrangement that has a 1/4 lag on one end and 1/4 20 bolt thread on the other. Screwed the lag in and had the bolt thread hanging down and made it real simple to line up the top center hole when reinstalling. Used about a 2" plastic fender washer made from a hole saw plug when I cut a 2" hole in a PVC electrical box. It just helps spread the load so it doesn't tear out. Don't leave no more bolt than you really need hanging down so you don't get caught on it.

I did something similar.

1) Removed the wheel well liners.

2) Drilled a 5/16' hole up through the cockpit floor using the lag bolt hole as a guide

3) Purchased the following parts:
3 ea 5/16" x 18 x 2" Stainless Steel (SS) Carriage Bolts - FULLY THREADED
3 ea 5/16" SS Flat Washers
3 ea 5/16" x 18 SS Nuts
3 ea 5/16" SS Fender Washers
3 ea 5/16" SS Lock Washers
3 ea 5/16" SS Wing Nuts
? ea 1/4" x 1" SS Lag Bolts - Used to attach the "lip" of the wheel well to the body
? ea 1/4" SS Fender Washers - Reshaped to a letter "D" - flat side towards outside of body

4) Fed the 2" SS carriage bolt down through the cockpit floor

5) Slipped the SS flat washer over the carriage bolt

6) Threaded the SS nut up the carriage bolt and slowly tightened it down until the flat washer / nut had crushed the floor and the
"bottom" of the nut was flush with the bottom of the floor

7) Re-installed the wheel well using the new carriage bolt as a guide

8) Slipped the SS fender washer over the carriage bolt

9) Slipped the SS lock washer over the carriage bolt

10) Threaded the SS wing nut over the carriage bolt and tightened it with my fingers

11) Slipped "D" shaped flat washers over 1/4" x 1" SS lag bolts

12) Tightened SS lag bolts

The wheel wells on Double Trouble have traveled like this for the past three years and over 15,000 miles. The wing nut has yet to
come off. Notice that I did buy spares of all the parts! ;-)

I like your idea of the plastic fender washer to spread the load and will incorporate that on Double Trouble.

My liners have been out for so many years that I do not know where the bolts are any more. I'll look around my hangar and if I stumble across them I'll get the size for you..
