I read the entire RCW and as far as I could see, there is no mention of Motorhomes being exempt? Or in other words not eligible?
So are you saying if I print the page and show them, that it does not say you cannot do it then they should let me purchase a collector plate?
Thanks..

It's all good until someone presses the issue. As stated before, the Washington RCW allows the vehicle to be driven to and from events, parades, and maintenance reasons. My toad (74 VW Thing), carries Washington state collector plates. No real incentive to reregister in Texas, at least not yet. Texas charges me darn near $200 every time I register one of my Washington vehicles here. I don't think I would like to challenge that law in front of a judge. BTW, I speak from experiance having worked for Washington state courts for 17 years. The guy in the black robe will ultimately know what's really going on.
The law was intended to give a small break to those individuals who's hobby was to preserve collector vehicles not to circumvent licensing laws. I don't feel too bad about (mis)using the toad but the motorhome is a different animal. Just my feelings, others may feel different.
Washington plates on the GMC run out next month. Technically I should have registered 30 days after moving here but I didn't. I"ll do the transfer before they expire. I guess I don't mind bending the rules, just think there is a point where it becomes broken. You can only let things go as far as your concious will allow.

Richard,
I'm confused!
I register my GMC on Antique plates in Texas, it costs $50 for 5 years and there's no inspections.
The use caveats are same as Washington State.
With all the rallies that are held around the USA you can always claim to be on the way to or returning from one if you get stopped.
I have never been stopped in 5 years.
Once you're out of Texas no one cares.
I reckon you wouldn't have a problem driving your GMC in Texas wherever and whenever as long as you didn't use it to commute to work
daily.
If the VW is only used as a towd same thing goes.
Regards,
Rob M.

I suppose what I'm saying is that one best be prepared to argue their point IF and WHEN the issue comes up in court. Don't bother arguing it on the side of the road (waste of time). In my 17 years, I can't recall anybody either issuing or receiving a ticket for "misuse of plates". Most police have bigger things to deal with.
I do recall several investigative news reports of people trying to dodge licensing fees by using "collector" plates on their daily driver. Sometimes public opinion will force police to enforce even the most menial of statutes.

Rob, I agree 100%.
If you are too worried about the extremely unlikely event that your historic vehicle status gets challenged ( cause you can't spin a good story on the side of the road ) and then you have to pay the current cost of correct licensing fee then buy your tabs every year.

Todd,
For the hell of it I went to Bdub's website and checked The GMC Rally Calendar he has there and I found that there were rallies all
around the USA starting as early as January this year going through the first week in December. All you have to do is find one,
print out the schedule and carry it in the coach when you are on the road. If you get stopped you take it out and show it to the
officer and explain that's where you're going. If you're going in the wrong direction you tell him that's where you're going. If he
notes it's in the other direction you tell him you wanted to stop and see wherever you're going first then you're heading on to the
Rally. Be polite and note that you weren't aware that if you were attending an event you HAD to proceed DIRECTLY there by the
shortest route. You thought you could wander around a bit. I would be VERY surprised if you were given a ticket.
HMMMMMM well I sold myself on that one, maybe I better get my hands on the Texas registration law that spells out EXACTLY what is
and is NOT permitted! ;-)
